I just accidentally swallowed part of a produce sticker on my apple. I had cut it up and only knew that I had done this when I saw part of the sticker left on the apple where I had cut the other part away.

I know its no big deal.... but it almost seems like it is WORSE than eating bad food... its not EVEN food. Oh well. Does anyone know how the body responds to plastic stickies with chemical backings on them!!! :(

Most likely it will just come out the other end. I hate to sound crass, but if you think about what the drug smugglers do, swallowing stuff stuffed into balloons and such...it comes out the other end and they're still fine. Unless they get caught that is!

I worked for a short while is a Kiwi Fruit pack house and they told me there that by law they have to make the stickers totally safe for consumption. You dont have to worry about it there should be no toxic substances contained in it.

I feel better about this too Sungoddess! I accidently added an organic apple to a smoothie a few weeks ago sticker and all. I wasn't using my Vitamix or I'd never have known it but an older blender at a friend's house that doesn't blend as well. I did find part of the sticker at the bottom of the glass but know I did eat at least part of it!

I've eaten my fair share of stickers and lived to laugh about it! :D

Too funny you posted this ! Last night as I was making my Avo chutney for dinner I caught a glimpse of a sticker just before I pressed pulse on the processor and pulled it out ! I wonder how many I have eaten!

That's hillarious! One of my secret pet peeves is stickers on fruit. I know they help the produce clerks identify them, but sometimes I feel like they press them on too hard. Some stickers come right off easily, but some are really stuck on there! So many times I've had to just tear out a piece of the fruit's skin to get the sticker off. And, yeah, I'm sure I've eaten a few stickers too. I used to work in the produce department of a Wild Oats, and I too have heard that the stickers are totally safe for consumption, if not edible. Well, we all know the stickers aren't living, but at least it's good to know they're not what the mainstream would call toxic.
