Hi Everyone! I am a New Raw foodist(2/8/05-New Moon) from Tacoma, WA. I am somewhat computer illiterate, So please bear with me as I am learning my way around this site. I may need a little help!!!
I am interested in meeting :) RAW FOODISTS locally, and abroad. My personal goal is to be the healthiest I can be~ FOREVER. I love my family, good food, and traveling- even if its for a day- and meeting like minded people. My favorite subjects are self help, herbalism, astrology, aromatherapy, flower essenses. I also love being out, & going places. I love Eating Right~and I am doing it! I would like to learn some form of exercise like (??) Im not sure~ stretching/Pilates /Yoga. I get discouraged easier in this area. I bought a 15 minute Workouts for Dummies DVD last week and was suprised at how fast it moved. I tried it 3-4 days in a row. My 3 year old kept rewinding it to the beginning (in the first part) if i missed a step, and kept saying "come on mom, you can do it", and I kept saying, "I did this part, my legs are killing me," & "dont rewind it." He tried doing everything I did. It was cute. I realized I can inspire him. He really likes junk food. we juice for him in the morning daily and have done it since he was born. Since I've gone RAW I cut him off Fast foods. He does' nt want to eat anything GREEN, But his juice that we Juice for him. Any Advice is welcome :D

That's a cute story. You'll be a great influence for your son. I let me children (11 month twins) watch me do yoga. And I give them a raw fruit or veggie at every meal.
Take it slowly, enjoy raw and don't be hard on yourself!

Would you recommend that DVD? Is it yoga or what? I am spending time in the morning doing crunches and stretching but want to get into yoga and am looking for a semi easy DVD to start my morning off right ;)
Have a great day!

Well HI neighbour! A warm welcome to you, glad you found us. We will be happy to help you anyway we can.
I am over in Port Orchard and run over to Tacoma once in awhile.
In Tacoma, there's a great organic market and juice bar, they also sell raw books.
Natural Food Store
Marlene's Market & Deli
2951 S. 38th St.
I love that place.
Another member on here, flyinion is from Tacoma.
Also, if you ever get over to Seattle, their raw cafe Chaco Canyon is wonderful! And this spring they are opening a fabulous place called Living Paradise that has a raw restaurant juice bar and deli, raw chef program, store, meditation rooms, classes, art, music, garden , hospice, all under a big greenhouse roof. Cant wait for that one!
A really easy way to start out with yoga, I have found, is with Sara Ivanhoe's yoga tapes/Dvd's. Her Candlelight Yoga has a morning wakeup- and an evening routine that are easy to begin with. Also, her Joy of Yoga dvd is great...a workout , but not really hard for beginning. Then I jumped to her fat-burning one. I have had her tapes for years and never get tired of them.
I also love Rainbeau Mars spiritual series. She is a raw-foodist, I never knew until this week. Interesting.
That is so wonderful that your little one looks to you so, and that you are exposing him to healthy choices at such a young age. That will serve him well his entire life. Way to go.
Very best wishes to you as you explore what raw can do for you. Again-it is so nice to see a neighbour on here!

Hello from another person in the Pacific Northwest! I am in Kitsap County (Hello Carmel!) in Poulsbo. I am mostly a lurker on this message board, it is wonderful and is one of my favorites to read... I get so many ideas to incorporate into my high raw diet.
I also have Sara Ivanhoe's Candlelight Yoga and love it. I take weekly Yoga and Tai Chi classes also, and find both a great addition to my daily aerobic workouts, a good balance!
Again, welcome and I just wanted to say "hi" to everyone. I enjoy reading all your posts and have found this to be the most encouraging and supportive group of people in the raw community!

HI Again! I appreciate the warm welcome. I am grateful for all the support so quickly. It is nice to meet all of you, and just reading your replys is uplifting. :D
Sweetgoddess: Thank you for the Yoga recomendations.I shop alot at Marlene's. Great store. Also PCC co-ops in Seattle Ilike. Also If you want to know about a great little farm between Tacoma & puyallup it is called Terry's Berries. (Organic) I have got to say they are worth the trip for their Rasberries, Blueberries, Apples-ETC... :p
I once use to work at Marlene's and I live about 1 mile from their. I enjoy the people that are their. Chaco Canyon sounds like a new place I have to try!
Heather: Thanks for the support. How long have you been Raw? Your kids?
Zoetastic, Yes I would Recomend it to anyone wanting to workout as it seams to include good tips all the way through, and different 15 Minute workouts for 4 differents parts of the body. Abs, Arms, Buns, & Thighs. It has 26 toning & shaping exercises.
Twinyoga: That is great that you do that for you 11 mo. old Twins. I am a Twin. My 14 & 15 year olds Felt like twins to me when they where small because of how close they are in age. But it is much easier for me now that they are older. They love having a little Brother, and are great help.
Are there any potlucks or Rawfood event happenings locally that any of you know of?
Thanks Everyone for your warm welcome & support~
So Grateful~ Tammy

If you wanted to hop over to Seattle, there are potlucks. Also in Poulsbo.
To find out about the Seattle potlucks, go to www.rawseattle.org
I dont know about Tacoma.
If we got all the washingtonians from the board together, we could have one. ;)
Does the organic berry farm have a website? I am a berry addict! I tried growing blueberries last year...paid $15.00 for one bush and was rewarded with about 10 blueberries...ha

Another relative newcomer to Raw here...just tryin' to to the best for her family!! (Alissa just recently added a Raw for Kids board so ask away with any questions about you kids...Us Mum fret about them much more than we do about ourselves, no?)
You'll find lots of support here...don't worry about taking it slow or making mistakes - the good thing is you know what direction you're heading in.
Re: excercise, I'm kind of in the same boat, and someone suggested rebounding, though I'd like to do some yoga too.

Welcome! I'm new to this site and just returning to the raw lifestyle after months of eating vegan. My husband & I have a 20 mon. old daughter and we live in Sequim, WA.
I'm really inspired to know there are so many of us around. I'll have to save up so we can make a roadtrip to the places I keep reading about here. I agree with SweetGoddess, we should get all the Washingtonians together and start our own potluck! Wouldn't that be great?! :)
My daughter loved drinking juice with us every night and was eating apples. Now after our 'slip' to cooked vegan foods, she isn't as willing to eat/drink everything I do! Ahhh, I'm trying not to worry. The more she sees what I'm eating, I think I can fade out the items I don't want her to have anymore.
At least that's my hope.
I used to do yoga years ago and have been wanting to start again. I've also heard a lot about Pilates and wondered if I'd rather do that for now. I haven't made up my mind which one I want to do, so I haven't done either.
I do meditate and visualize daily. I'm teaching my daughter some breathing and she sees both of us meditate often enough. She now knows that when I pull out the big, brown pillow it's mamma's quiet breathing time! She likes to sit there and breath out slowly (I taught her by using bubbles).
Anyway, Ive rambled on enough. I really meant to just say welcome!
Any time you're over this way, we'll have to hook up.
