Does anyone use fermented foods? I read that they are good for the intestinal flora. How do you make them? Are olives considered fermented?

VB - Yes! I make my own sauerkraut and LOVE it! Also raw olives ARE fermented. Here's a link to my 'kraut jar. Check this out:

Now the first time I made it, I didn't use a probiotic, and it turned out nasty. Mushy and hot - flavored. I got a probiotic at my HFS and this time it is OUT OF THIS WORLD! I only use two cabbage heads though.
It's ready in three days! And keeps forever in the fridge. I love it! The guy that owns the website is awesome to deal with too! Good guy!

Hey Very,
I use lots of fermented products. Some are bought and some I make myself.
Saur Kraut, Kombucha, coconut oil, chutney and some non vegan fermented products as well. (taro root is an excellet thing to ferment. the tropical peoples call it "poi" and its renowned for its health properties.)
The book "Nourishing Traditions," while not strictly a raw vegan book, has a TON of fermented fruits, veggies, and "superfood" recipes. Even if ya only use the book for that, its well worth the money as its only 14 dollars on amazon.
Traditional peoples almost always consumed some fermented foods when they ate any cooked meals. I assume this was to provide enzymes and stuff for better digestion.
Finally, I have read that TOO many fermented foods, as they ARE acidic, are not good, so moderating is key, though with all the green juice we drink, I am sure that the acid is plenty negated lol.
God Bless
Jeff

I am not a fan of fermented foods. I tend to get gas. I guess you have to try them to see how you do with them. everyone is different !

I LOVE fermented food
I can feel it in my tummy, and it I just love it
Veganforlife- I ordered the kraut maker a few days ago! Can you tell me... what probiotic did you add? I can't decide to order one or not... I don't want to waste a batch of kraut though.
