I`ve been wanting to go raw for a long time. The problem is I have a roommate who eats nothing but junk food. My friends consider Mcdonalds part of the major food group, and family get togethers are even worse. The question is, how can I maintain a healthy lifestyle without alienating myself from others? When I get together with people they constantly think that i`m weird because I want to eat right?

Hi Simone 24... Welcome! :D
Boy, I can sure appreciate what you shared... it can be a challenge when you're the only one choosing to eat a certain way. The great news is it can be done... and when you feel so good it gets easier to make those choices. Some people go raw 100% to start... but many transition into it... eating more and more raw as they go along.
Anyway, your question is better for the Raw and Living Food Discussion section. And, there will more people to help you with this.
All the best to you... :p

Simone,
Your family sounds almost like mine:eek:.
My mother doesn't eat healthy at all. She has painful periods and I know for a fact it's diet related.
My grandmother passed away 5 years ago due to obesity-related complications. No one in my family eats healthy...and they wonder why they're having so many health problems:eek:.

A majority of people who are or aspire to become raw foodists have the same issues. In a society where an unhealthy lifestyle is the norm and medical professionals are not taking responsibility to inform people of the truth, it seems reminescent of the Twilight Zone.
I've read stories from people saying that family members and friends were actually disowning them because of their interest in raw food and overall health.
I think the important thing to remember is that YOU are the most important thing you have. Keep reading about raw food and asking questions on this board. As your confidence grows in this you will be stronger when dealing with unsupportive people. Also patience is key. Try not to get mad at your friends and family. People fear what they do not understand. I think once they see raw making you healthy and happy they'll leave you alone.
