Sanjay this is definately detox! I'm so happy you are seeing changes already!

I know your country is really big on the cooling and warming foods - I hope you can try and push that kind of thinking aside while you are transitioning. Our bodies are perfect machines for regulating their own temperatures. Once a food goes into the body, it is subjected to the temp of the body, not the other way around.

You are doing great!

Spinach is high in oxalic acid, so overdoing it with the spinach might be causing problems. Also conventional spinach can be high in pesticides. I have seen it in the top three veggies and fruit for pesticide residue.

It might be nothing significant, or maybe too much spinach isn't agreeing with you if you're having huge quantities of it.

Green smoothies are Wonderful!! but you should vary the greens that you are using in them. So, instead of using spinach all of the time, use another green or combination of greens ... kale, romaine, dandelion, redleaf, etc etc etc.

You may want to vary your fruits as well to keep it interesting.
See if that helps your throat problem.

I am guilty of too much spinach & parsley in green smoothies...are the varieties of hydroponic lettuce (not iceberg) OK too? How about ruby chard?

Another good thing to remember is to make sure the food (especially greens) that you use for your smoothie is organic. (no pesticides) No need to add pesticides to your body when you are obviously doing green smoothies for better health.

Consider this ~ it "MAY" be the smoothies, then again, it may not. They may certainly be a factor in the detox yet, you say "with breakfast" and "with dinner".

There are always other factors involved when someone is going through detox.

Whatever it is, celebrate it!

Gabriel Cousens is a longtime rawfooder and he is big on the concept of cooling and warming foods. The two don't have to be mutually exclusive.

Sanjay seriously the best thing you can do is actually stop eating altogether, REST and take in lots of fluids and fresh juice is you need to.

It sounds like you are going through a tremendous detox and this is really a good thing. By supressing those symtoms with medication that you will only have to detox later may be harder down the road.

Just my opinion, but I do hope you feel better!

I'm with you Revvell. It may be detox, it may be smoothies, it may be something else altogether. The human body, in its magnificence, is always responding to more factors than we can even begin to count -- things in the air, the water, our food, the season, the thoughts we have, other people we encounter, and so on to infinity. We don't always know why things get out of whack.

Seems like the best thing to do is rest, drink lots of water, eat or don't eat as your body wishes, and above all, treat yourself to comforting things -- nice movies, music, sitting in the sun, naps, warm baths, etc.

I could be wrong, of course, but I don't think sore throat, cough, etc, are necessarily a reason to get get scared. The vast majority of the time people -- even people who eat all sorts of junk and don't take care of themselves -- can shake these types of symptoms off in a few days, a week or a couple of weeks.

Hope you feel better soon, Sanjay! :)

If you like spinach and parsley, just add lemon juice it cancels out the o acid from them. Simple.

If it is detox the medication will merely postpone the suffering til later. I hope these are natural type medications not pharmaceuticals. I am suffering life-threatening complications from too many years of Rx meds. Well there is no way of proving it so I really should not make the statement but if you knew my history it is pretty obvious. I really encourage you to listen to your bodies' intuition. If it is telling you not to eat then that is what you should do. If you crave a certain food - think about it - many people keep their detox's manageable so that they may hold a job or attend to family by eating select amounts of cooked food. Knowing your food source - for possible toxins is tedious but necessary as much as you are able. Be Well!

Hi sanjay_sahani,

I don't really think drinking green smoothies will cause you to get a cold. Cold symptoms are detox symptoms. What else is your diet like besides the smoothies? Are you all raw or eating some cooked foods along with raw? Are you consuming any dairy at all? If so, dairy is a HUGE culprit in causing the body to become bombarded with excess mucous...if anything, the green smoothies are aiding in your body cleaning house, hence your cold symptoms.

When I get a sore throat, I try not to eat anything. Maybe drink some lemon water or some fresh orange juice until it goes away because eating solid foods may irritate it worse and cause it to persist longer and if you're eating cooked foods or if you take medicine for it, that may slow down the healing process.

One other thought...are your greens organic or conventional? If non-organic, it is possible (but not definite) that your body is simply reacting to and trying to get rid of the pesticides in the greens and/or the produce in your smoothie.

But all in all, green smoothies won't give you a cold...your body is just trying to clean house from one thing or another.

my dear rawkinlocs thanks for your suggestions in starting i did have cooked food at night but later on i stopped cooked food all together but i think i was having mono diet as i had salads and fruits and seeds for my food but since i am based in india only spinach is available as greens and it is not organic also as organic food is not available in india and now i have strated adding lemon to my green smoothie and have removed banana from the recipe of green smoothie.

i have stopped using dairy products since the time i have gone raw.
but if sour throath and cold and cough is detox than i must say that it has knocked me off the raw food and i got afraid and started eatng cooked food and i am also afraid to drink green smoothie as oxalic acid found in spinach is not good for body's health
pls advice accordingly as now my sour throat has gone and so is cold but i do always have high blood pressure

Sanjay.....I would start slowly with green smoothies and gradually build up to the amount you desire. I used too many greens too quickly and had very strange symptoms of red and swollen ears! Best to go slowly.
