Hi everyone,
I have been a vegetarian for about 2 years now. Nothing impressive here but where I come from - a small country in Eastern Europe - what??? you eat no meat???? :) - impressive enough.
I came to this country almost 4 years ago and started reading a lot about healthy eating and vegetarians and vegans and educated myself enough to decide that animal products are bad for me and become a vegetarian - most of the time a vegan, but not 100%. I even started studying nutrition at the college last year. After graduating from this "contemporary" nutrition program ( you know, they still teach the protein, B-12, meats and dairy stuff ), I am planning to do the masters in holistic nutrition program. But...one step at a time...
Anyway, along with all my interest and reading, I have learned a lot about raw food and it really got to me...so I decided I will give it a try - it can only do the good stuff. I purchased "Living Cuisine"; "Raw Food Made Easy"; "Green for Life" and Jinjee and Storm`s e-books and I did it for 2 weeks - and it was great!...I loooooove green smoothies....but I fell off the wagon yesterday and of course today I was eating the cooked food the whole day. :( I did not give up of course...I really want to go 100% raw, its just that it is hard...as you all already know... But my decision is strong and it will just take me some time .... I know for a lot of people it is a battle that last for the whole life.
So, the destiny wanted me to come along this wonderful website today - just when I fell off the wagon, and so I registered and am hoping that all of you wonderful raw people - who are such an inspiration to me, will give me a support and cheer me when I need it the most! :)
Also, as I already said, where I come from people are very poorly educated about the diet - and thats why there is a high rate of heart attack and cancer problems there, so I am extremely HAPPY that I got a chance to come to this country and learn so much about food being related to your overall health, that I was thinking ( just an idea ) to even start a website in my language about raw food and why is good for you and how to do it and with recipes and all that stuff so people in my country can at least read and know that this wonderful way of life does exist and try it out and see for themselves...would really love to do that...but dunno....
There you go folks, I am looking forward to this journey with all of you by my side!
Hugs from New York!

p.s: don`t have the "signature" yet - with all the smart thoughts like you guys, but will come up with one along the way ;)

Welcome to raw!

Don't worry about slip-ups, we've all had them. My latest:
1. I made a noncoction which is supposed to be a raw version of refried beans, but it didn't come out right. I have the habit, from a long time ago, of eating beans and grains together. So I cooked some rice, cooled it below 47, and ate them together.
2. The weather getting colder, I have a hankering for stir-fries like I ate last winter. So I got some bamboo shoots, snow peas, yu choy, etc., added some Bragg sauce (I'm planning to get Nama Shoyu, but don't have any now), and ate them. I didn't cook them, but the bamboo shoots aren't raw.

Writing a website in your language sounds great! What is your language?

You've stepted in just at the Right time, there is Never a bad time to go RAW. I am so excited for you.

Remember to keep things Simple. Try to keep plenty of Whole Foods like Apple and Oranges, nuts around. Never let yourself get too hungry.

You have open the door to a Whealth on knowledge on thiis site, use it and find out everything you can. Read all the RAW Books you can. Do a Search on this site to find out things that have already been discussedd.

Aren't you excited? NEVER LOSE THE EXCITEMENT......

I wish you everything you need to Stay RAW....Welcome to MY World...

WELCOME TO THE BOARDSwe're here for you, trust me when I say this, I don't think that there is anyone anywhere who went 100% raw and didn't slip up at one time or another, I've done it countless times, so accept that you are human just like the rest of us, and get back on that raw wagon, you can do this, we are all here to help you, because trust me on this, there will be a day that we need YOUR help too.

Well, they (Long Islanders) have Jandi's market with tons of raw food and Rising Tide has some raw options as well. I don't think I've come across any place in Queens serving raw. Have you?

Hi Mimi,

Well when I go to NYC I treat myself to raw take-out from pure food and wine...totally addicted to their coconut ice cream and wraps. I am not a big quintessence fan but love Caravan of Dreams and Bonobos has the best juice and smoothie selection and there was a little place called raw soul we stopped at once. I love to shop at the Westerly market.

visit www.happycow.com for a list of places!
