I'm not sure if I'm posting this in the correct place but I THINK so.

I had been discussing with my friend, how awesome it is when you wake up earlier than normal in the morning and have extra time before work. it's such a better/more relaxing way to start your day.

I asked her if she'd like to make a commitment with me to get up early so that we can do those things. She said yes, and I thought that the idea might work here as well.

Basically we commit to getting up at a certain time (at least when I wake up at ridiculous o' clock I'll know that you guys are doing the same ;)

My plan is to be out of bed by 6:05am.
I'm going to put on some water for tea.
spend 10 minute stretching and then do some crunches
take a long hot shower
spend some time on make up, hair, all that jazz

if I have extra time before I leave and have nothing to do, then my goal is to find 12 things that are not where they go, and put them back to their correct place (my apartment is always in need of tidying up).

That way I start my day by knowing that i've accomplished:
time for myself
an un-rushed morning
the apartment is cleaner
I have tea for my drive in to work ;)

Anyone else interested? Feel free to join me!

:)

but in the early morning hrs being snuggled up the the covers seems like such a lure lol. although i do want to get up earlier ... would definitly be a good feeling ... tea, maybe a little meditation, clean up , be able to eat before work, hmm this idea definitly has merits ... ok i'm with you. so the time is 6am? if i work out i may need to get up a little earlier .. hey zoe what time zone are in and what time do you have to be at work?

Well I don't think we all have to get up at the exact same time (that would be difficult due to time zone differences). I'm in Milwaukee so I believe that's Central time.

I will be getting up at 6. I normally get to work around 7:30ish but technically dont have to be in till 8am.

Yay! :)

Hi Zoetastic,
I would love to join you but I cannot get up any earlier than I already do and that is at 5:00 am eastern time.
Why so early, I like to do 30-40 minutes or some pilates in the morning before I feed my animals, get my lunch ready and then I head into the shower to get ready for work. I live 40-45 minutes from my job so I leave the house around 7:15 every morning to get to work on time.
I really like your attidude though! Have a great morning and an even better day.
Kim :)

I'm a morning person...actually I'm someone who is up with the sun and ready for sleep when the sun is down. Being that the sun is rising around 7am (est), I'm starting wake up earlier than I did last month. So, I'll be joining you slowly but surely.

Just wait till May, that's when I'm up earlier than my babies and will get some yoga in!

6am is my new wake up time
I'm going to start the 5 Tibetan Rites
Not sure how many repetitions I'll do.
Want to be out of the house by 7am
so I can get to the gym for my booty camp!

:D

Thanks for the inspiration. It TOTALLY helps me get up when I know others are.

I'll be seeing you in the early am!

:D Hey there, glad to see so many people are on board :) YAY! :)

Just set a time that you are going to commit to. We all have different schedules, but at least we'll know that while we're groaning to get out of bed at ridiculous o' clock, our friends are doing the same thing at their specified times.

I think we can really benefit from some quality alone time, it will be such a great feeling to know you got something done before you left the house (exercise or cleaning or stretching or drinking tea or just quiet time for yourself, whatever it may be).

I'll be starting tomorrow! Alarm is set for 6am and I have to get up by 6:05am ;)
I can't wait until it's closer to spring time, is warmer, and is lighter earlier. Eventually I want to start spending morning time on my deck outside (I left on the second floor of a duplex and have a big deck all to myself:)

I'm with you all - 6:00 Mountain Time here

That means I have to go to bed earlier - no Friends or King of Queens re-runs for me! :o

Wow...what time is that Sydney time...lol!

I *am* getting up earlier (currently 6.45am) and will work on earlier gradually... ;)

Interestingly I'm also going to bed much later ...I know early to bed, early to rise is the accepted wisdom, but I find I can sleep at after midnight & still wake early, whereas before I was drooping around 10pm...

Good Morning!
I had a bit of a tough time getting up because I stayed up later than normal (had to pick my boyfriend up at the airport around the time I normally get in bed). So I think I stayed in bed 5 minutes later than planned, but I forgive myself ;)

I did some stretching, 60 crunches and am now enjoying some water and checking my e mail :)

Hope everyone has a fabulous morning!

I kept thinking about you this morning, Zoe, when I drug my sorry butt out of bed...a few minutes later than I'd hoped, but I felt like a lead brick. This definately is a lesson for me to get to bed a lot earlier. I had my subliminal big boob tape going on in the background and everything (ocean sounds) to help me fall asleep but it usually doesn't happen for me immediately.

I did get my work out in and my fruit smoothies done for the fam which was great.

I'll continue to get up early and shoot for 6. I actually heard the alarm but laid there in a daze quite a bit before getting up around 6:20

I got up early again today, did my 60 crunches and stretching, took a hot shower, and had a liesurely morning.
I had extra time so I stopped at the grocery store and picked up some food for the day,
1 pink pummelo (it was soo good for breakfast because it's huge, dense, and fairly low acid citrus fruit)
1 jicama (i think i'm going to make "jicama fries" this weekend)
some cauliflower for lunch to dip

the pummelo took FOREVER to eat but it was sort of fun:)

Hope everyone got up and took some time for themselves!

I did the early thing today too. Got up at 6:08 this time. Then I got on this silly computer for too long. I worked out on the bike for 6 miles, made everyone's fruit shakes/smoothies and got in the shower. I really like getting ready early, instead of dragging around the house too late.

Coffeesquirrel - yes I have one of those funny tapes. I don't think it works though! It's from innertalk.

Maybe if my fiance and I can get a place of our own I could work on this. I need extra time to get my chores done. As it is we barely sleep now.

In yoga, the early morning hours are called 'amrit vela'--the 'ambrosial period' of the day about 2.5 hours before sunrise. Many yogis wake up and do their yoga and meditation practices in these early morning hours. I don't manage to do that too often--I am already up at 5 AM--but it is a wonderful way to begin the day.

I agree that if it can be accomplished it is a great thing to do.
