Hi guys! I am feeling really weird and I am needing help!! I have stopped drinking my occasional glass of wine 7 days ago. I am eating extremely strict as far as a low fat raw food diet. All fruits during the day and at night a little tahini and salad... no vinegar, garlic, oil, salt. I am waking up feeling really lethargic, and here is the weird thing, extremely hungover. I feel like my body is "poisened", it feels exactly how it would feel when i was raw and drinking wine.
My eyes are burning, my body feels "zingy", and my stomach feels really weird... uncomfortable, bloated, acidy. ??????????
Has anyone had these symptoms? Why do I feel hungover when I stopped drinking wine????
Thanks!!
Michelle

When it comes to detoxing the ways that your body can react are many and varied. it is very important during this time to trust in your bodies own inate sense of wizdom. Now that you have taken a lot of toxins out of your diet your body has the chance to start working on expelling those toxins that were building up in your system for a while. Your body is doing some 'spring cleaning' so to speak. The best thing to do at this time is take it easy and read lots about the raw vegan diet so that you feel better about the decision you have made. Joining this forum is a great way to help you feel OK with the strange sensations you are having. It might do you some good to learn more about the detox reaction and the type of things you can experience just so that you are comfortable with the process and not adding acid to your body with worry.

I heard it explained once by Dr Joel Robbins that your body has a memmory and when it is detoxing you can re-experience ill health events of your past when you are detoxing. He relates a story of a patient who came to him after having had three heart attacks. This patient is on a good diet for a while and then Dr Robbins gets a call from an alarmed patient saying that they feel like they are having a heart attack! He explains that he was expecting it and for them not to be surprised if they experience two more. Well sure enough they did re-live the heart attack three times in total. But never as servear as the reall thing and over a lot sooner. The body does this when it is unable to heal you properly at the time that you first experienced those problems.

Kathy's right!
Just as when someone stops using drugs, they go through withdrawals; your body is going through a similar thing with the wine as the body detoxes it out of your system. If you persevere, it will pass!

Yes, Dr Joel Robbins has been an inspiration to me for helping to give a scientific explination for what is happening in our body. He really does break it down into the nuts and bolts of what happens. My understanding of our bodies reaction on a cellular level grew tremendously after seeing a recording of a presentation he made to a group of Doctors years ago. And we managed to get our hands on a scratch copy, of a copy, of a copy of a video of that presentation. Without that understanding that he was able to give, about how dramatic a healing crisis can be - one could be forgiven for getting worried at experiencing the sensations of a heart attack or a hangover.
