How do you know when you are just experiencing a cold verses when your body is in a healing phase?
10 days ago I had a wisdom tooth pulled. The very next day, I started getting a heavy chest...which turned into this 9 days of nose blowing...coughing thing. There has been a cold in our area similar to this, but no one has been this sick from it. It doesn't seem to be clearing. Could this be something other than a cold and how do you know the difference?

I don't think I've ever had a heavy chest. And 9 days seems like a long time for a cold. I think they usually advise seeing the Dr. if the symptoms last over 7 days.

Anytime the body experiences symptoms, it is it's way of trying to clean/clear out whatever is ailing it.
So, whether it's something you think you "caught" or if it's a result of going through detox from eliminating certain things from your diet, etc...it's still a detox effort of the body. People get kinda offended at the alleged over-usage of the term "detox", but in reality, all detox really means is getting rid of toxins...doesn't matter how they got there, what matters is the body uses certain mechanisms to rid itself of the toxins or give signals that something is not right within.
As for the wisdom tooth being pulled...sometimes even something such as having a tooth pulled can cause a reaction in the body, especially if they used any type of anesthesia. I remember when my 7-year old daughter had a tooth growing in but the baby tooth hadn't come out yet and didn't seem like it was going to anytime soon...we took her to the dentist and while they only used a topical anesthetic as opposed to an injection, after we got home she felt sick to the stomach and had a fever that night.
If your symptoms have persisted this long, then perhaps there are some things you are doing or not doing that need to be changed...for example, what are you eating? You really should try eating as minimally as possible and try avoiding fats during this time since they can slow down the healing process due to needing to be digested much more than fruit. Also, make sure you are resting as much as is feasible for you. If you are taking ANYTHING, be it medications or supplements, I'd say maybe consider not doing that either.

Thank you both for your advice. I was really wondering because I have never had any detox symptoms other than acne. Then this happened. Hummm. I have absolutely been staying down and for a few days there...it was blended fruit only because I couldn't chew. :p But just since Saturday, I started having gourmet raw. (Got my new dehydrator and had to try it out. :D ) I will lay off the heavy food for a while as suggested and try some simple fruits. Maybe that will help this go quicker. Thank you so much for your advice and if it doesn't leave by next week...I will see my local doctor. (((HUGS)))
