sometimes I eat them in a smoothie, sometimes hand teared for a salad, and sometimes I just eat whole romaine leaves plain!

Sungoddess (love the name by the way!) I eat them the same ways in which you do! lol
So I eat them hand teared as a salad, I eat them (or slurp them rather) in smoothies, and once in a while I just eat the leaves whole.

Lunar*Fey, I have meaning to make a post saying that I feel so silly having my username be: sungoddess :) I made it in the summer when I was starting raw and trying to get lots of Vitamin D!... now I feel silly with it, should have made it something more low-key... like chevy, my nick-name
thanks though! I guess its good to aspire to being something like a sungoddess!

Smoothies for me! What a great way to get in tons of greens especially for someone like me with TMJ. Chewing salad is very painful (especially the next day) including headaches and muscle spasms so thank goodness for my Vita Mix and Green Smoothies!

I have always been cutting my greens with a metal knife, but then I noticed that the leftovers were oxydizing and turning brown quickly, so now I just started hand-tearing them.
The smoothie option is only for those who don't eat greens outside of putting them in a smoothie.

I "eat" my darker greens either in a smoothie, a wrap (collard wraps) or cut into strips with a metal knife and marinated.
As for lettuce, I eat that mainly in salads and I usually hand-tear those into the bowl.

I never cut my greens. I either tear them and eat them in salad or on sandwiches or I just eat the whole leaves. I don't do smoothies. Yuck!

I love my green smoothies, and it only took me a little less than a year to acquire a taste for straight green smoothies :D . Now I desire the taste, and the thrill :D . Try a regular fruit smootie and add a romiane lettuce. then add two, then three, then four, take one fruit out. It will work its way to your appreciation when you see the results. I was iron deficient, my red blood cells were not growing to mature size. I am good now, and I like the green smoothie. :p
I cut them, eat them whole, drink them, rap them, sandwhich them. I eat them, eat them, eat them. ;)

Standing on my head, listening to old broadway musicals, singing at the top of my lungs while I eat.

I either tear the leaves with my hands and eat, or I just eat the plain leaves... either way, eating my hugeeeeee salads leaves me plenty of time to get some work done ;)

This is such a great topic, Sharon. I really want to increase my greens intake, & I hope this thread will give me some good ideas.
Like Cherie, I do smoothies & wraps. However, during the winter, I tend not to do smoothies because it's very cold. So, I need to find more ways to eat the greens.

I usually cut my greens with a metal knife if I intend to use them in a salad - but that depends on the green actually. Some greens (like softer lettuces) I tear with my hand and don't use a knife.
The romaine hearts I love to eat as a whole (they are quite small here, maybe the size of an avocado) and dip them in a salad dressing. Yummyumm ;)

I found when fall arrived with the colder weather I just wasn't enjoying green salads anymore. I'd eat the good stuff out and leave the lettuce and enjoyed the "other stuff" so much more. So for now all my greens are in my daily smoothies (1 to 2 quarts) but I am sure most people don't exclusively eat their greens in smoothies like I am doing right now!

smoothies... smoothies... smoothies... salads, wraps, spinach soups...
I usually tear greens... for tougher greens I sometimes use kitchen scissors...
Hey Biscuit Grinch... I want to eat greens with you! :D

Lettuce: tear by hand.
Leek: split open down the short side with my thumbnail, then cut with a knife.
Others: cut with a knife.
How should I vote?

I like my greens in smoothies and spring mix for salads. No knives necessary.

I take the whole head and slice off the bottom part (1/2 - 1 inch) with whatever knife is around and then hand tear into a salad. I rinse each leave separately and then also in a salad spinner.
Lately, I've been blending my heads of lettuce with a few bananas using my Ktec blender (blendtec). These are delicious and a quick easy way to get the whole greens into my body.
I've also used scissors to chop up the lettuce once it is in a bowl. I read that tip from "Raw Food Real World".
Sometimes while traveling or doing something where I have to drive somewhere, I'll take a baggie of lettuce leaves and munch on them while driving. Lettuce is awesome!!! I often enjoy just grabbing a head of romaine or green leafy lettuce and eating it stand-alone.

I was start'n to think...'oh no, I'm doing it wrong'....I use scissors to cut just about everything...just plain ol' sewing scissors that I use only for food...
I love smoothies and wraps...and HUGE salads with everything in 'em...hardly ever have to use a knife....
I feel so good, love, Elaine

What's the difference between using scissors and using a knife?
Anyway, I eat my greens mostly in green smoothies.
I use the bags of spring mix and others for a salad. I've always hand teared those.
I still haven't gotten used to the taste of kale and collard so I haven't smoothie'd them up yet or had them in a salad.

I eat my greens in smoothies for breakfast. I use collard greens at night for wraps, and I tear up different greens for salads. I also cut cilantro with a metal knife and mix with cauliflower and a viniagrette dressing for a great salad. That recipe is in the teen's Boutenko recipe book.

I depends on the greens.. if it is something like Kale or Mustard then I cut it with a knife.. if it something softer like Romaine then I just tear.. if it is baby greens then I eat them as is. I also use alot of greens in my smoothies as well. I'd love to have ceramic knives but I know I'd break them.. I think I'm the only person in the world that has managed to break not one, but two correll plates! *lol* :D

HI :D
I eat my greens in soups and marinated.
My favorite to eat with greens in 1. Macadamia Oil, with salt.
You dont need anything else as mac oil tastes DIVINE!
Marinate your favorite greens like baby greens in:
2. Make in blender-Olive oil, lemon, fresh squeezed orange juice, salt, ginger, garlic, and agave....Blend till creamy and toss on greens
3. This is a great soup I have been eating for years...until the spinach scare! You could substitute any soft greens.
It is so good if you like spicy and smokey flavors...you dont taste greens at all. I came up with thi srecipe about 6 years ago and have made and enjoyed it many many times over the years.
Spicy Green Lime Cilantro Soup
Ingredients
2 -3 large handfuls of Spinach
2 large handful of Cilantro
Juice of 1-2 Young Coconuts
Meat of 1 Young Coconut
Juice of 11/2 limes
2-4 T RAW Olive Oil
1/2 Avocado
Dash of Nama Shoyu
1/2 tsp. of mellow white miso
1 whole Poblano Pepper
1/4 jalepeno or habenero depending on how hot you like it!
1 medium to large size dried Ancho Chile with seeds (stem removed)
1-2 cloves of garlic
1) Blend in Vita Mix or Blender until smoothie
2) Taste and adjust to meet your needs
3) The key ingredients are lime and ancho chiles
4) If it doesn't taste right add more of those ingredients
5) I like it without Avocado when I want a thinner soup
ok, those are my favorites! Enjoy:)
