Good Morning!

Has anyone ever attended a fasting retreat (and if so, which one?) OR done some type of supervised WATER fast for an extended length of time (say at least 10 days up to maybe 20 days)??? I am fairly new to raw but have been reading a lot about the awesome benefits of a water fast. From what I have heard and read, there is just nothing like the experience! I feel like I am investing so much in my health for myself and my family, that why not do the ultimate thing (water fast) to really have a great chance at optimal health. I see many of you do your own water fasts and I'm curious about that because from what I have read, lengthy water fasts (more than 3-4 days) should be supervised by someone experienced with water fasting. Dr. Doug Graham is very adament about this in his interview with Frederic Patenaude (you can hear the interview on his site at www.foodnsport.com), as are others experienced with supervising fasts.

I would love to get your feedback about water fasts in general and would also love to hear from those of you that have actually done a lengthy supervised water fast and where you went for the fast, who supervised it, what your experience was like, etc. Most of these fasts are quite expensive, from $2,000 up to $7,500 for Dr. Graham's 6 week Costa Rica retreat (which, for most of us is not do-able in more ways than one). However, $2,000 for a 2 week fast seems more my speed (financially and time-wise). Just wondering if, for those of you who have had this type of experience, was it worth it???

Thanks for all who reply and for helping shed some light on the whole water fasting experience for me!!! :)

Hi HealthyRawLife... :D

I do fasting including water fasting. I haven't been to a retreat. Maybe you could look at some of the sites online and read about their programs and see if they have testimonials. I wonder if some would have any past clients you could contact... to ask about the experience.

Also, if you look at the 'Fasting Support Thread' you'll see Miss Linda's Fasting 101... it will give you an idea of some of the detoxing involved with fasting.

Here is a link to a site... Fasting Freedom with info about water fasting too.

Thanks star1919 for your response and helpful information. Wishing you a wonderful, healthy day!

Anyone else with first-hand (or second-hand) knowledge of fasting retreats?

Hello Everyone!

To better meet the needs of our guests, we have new programs at Vida Clara fasting retreat in Northern California. We have updated the website with the details:
Vida Clara Fasting Retreat (http://www.vidaclara.com/)

Vida Clara (Clear Life) is a small fasting retreat in Nevada City, CA, in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountains. We have a beautiful mountain top setting on 15 acres with panoramic views of the surrounding countryside and a distant lake. We have two types of fasting retreats. The Solo Retreat is for guests who prefer an unstructured stay with private time on their own to rest, read, journal, meditate, lounge in the sunshine, or listen to music. It is a break from stress and the demands of daily life.

The Transformation Retreat is for the serious seeker who wants intensive spiritual and personal growth. Fasting and deep healing work are a natural marriage. A fast encourages detoxification at many levels...physical, mental, and emotional. Fasting quickens and intensifies the healing process. A daily schedule including private sessions, meditation, body awareness, health education, stretching, creative expression, and journaling provide you with the insight and tools to break through to your next level of growth and healing.

We are happy to answer any questions you may have.

All The Best To You!

Water fasting is serious business. It is the ultimate, in terms of testing the body's purity. There are at least two reasons to take caution:

1) If someone has a special medical condition that needs to be be considered.

2) The age and eating history of the person. The older we are, the more toxins we tend to be carrying. Plenty of fasts went up in smoke & flames by underestimating this. Some have to start with shorter fasts, with cleansing diets in between. Or raw Veg/Fruit juice fasting as a transition.

But, not to discourage anyone.. the vast majority of folks are capable of water fasting without too much problem. I'm a big believer in water fasting myself. I don't mean to promote another's work here, but Rational Fasting by Arnold Ehret is a must-read for all who take water fasting seriously.

Be daring, but be careful.

That's a chunk of change.. probably a sanitorium in Europe would be lower, including air fare.

Before you drop the 2 Gs, at least check out www.fasting.com. (Fasting Center Int'l).
