I just got my first young coconut today.. now I am trying to figure out what to do with it. What is the difference between a round coconut and a young coconut?? Why does one have a layer of white around it and the other one doesn't?? Is the young coconut better for some recipes then the regular round coconut??

Congrats on your first coconut! Crack that baby open (carefully) and make a yummy chocolate shake with the meat.... Or make some chocolate pudding. Mmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

The meat of the young coconut is much softer then the mature brown coconuts. So it would be best to use the meat of a young coconut for things like puddings and shakes.

You could also make some noodles out of the coconut meat and and yummy thai sauce. There are tons of recipes on the board.
