View Full Version : What fruit goes with cashews?

For Thanksgiving I plan to make my faux Sahale snacks, a blend of pecans, cranberries, orange zest and black pepper, sweetened with a date syrup. I soak it all in the syrup and then dehydrate until the pecans are crisp and the berries are dried. I love it but my brother and daughter will not eat pecans or walnuts.
For them, I want to make a mix with cashews. I wouldn't put in the cranberries or the pepper and am not sure about the orange. Does anyone have suggestions for fruit I could use? I asked my brother what sorts of dried fruits he will eat. The only answer he gave me was "not melon"! I know he is partial to apricots. Not sure if daughter would eat those or not. She will eat raisins. I plan to keep this mix more simple on the flavors because this is what they tend to prefer. I'm just not much of a fruit eater and am not sure what would go well with this mix. Sahale does make other mixes, but I don't think any contain cashews and the combination of flavors they contain don't seem appealing to me, although my husband seems to love the one with chipotles in it.
Thanks!

I like raisins and goji berries with cashews - YUM!
Also, bananas go well IMHO...I used to eat dehydrated banana chips with cashews as a snack. I'd even go as far as to say berries like strawberries and/or blueberries too would be good. I'd probably mix just about anything with cashews!
Why did you not want to do the cranberries with cashews? Since you're sweetening the mixture, seems it would be fine (?)

Guess I should have mentioned that daughter is allergic to banana. Daughter won't eat cranberries and I doubt that my brother would either. That's why I didn't want to use them. I also seem to be the only one in the family who likes the goji berries. Perhaps I could use the raisins and cherries and daughter can just pick out the cherries. Thanks!

Not sure if they will eat mango but I'll keep that in mind. I bought something that came in long dried spears that were pinkish on one end and yellowish on the other. Maybe that was papaya but I tend to get those and mangoes mixed up. I liked them but daughter said she did not. With her I think it's often a mindset thing. I don't think she even kept it in her mouth long enough to taste it.
Perhaps what I should do is just mix up small batches of different things and put them all in a divided dish. I know my husband likes the mango blend.
Thanks!

That sounds like papaya. Try the mango, they'll love it or my name isn't Stanley.

Mango and Pineapple are good with Cashews.
It would be like a tropical mix... if you do one like this... maybe you could soak the mix in pineapple juice before dehydrating.
