Hi Heather,

I only use it on my skin, but I know of those who put it in their smoothies.

You can use it in smoothies, or as an oil in a recipe when you don't want the savory flavor of olives. I will often use it in dehydrator macaroon recipes.

I know someone who is not raw, who spreads it on toast.

Cassy :)

Every raw website I've read recommends it - what are the benefits? Plaese forgive my ignorance.

MAKE RAW CHEESECAKE! You won't regret it. There was a chocolate cheesecake recipe that was posted earlier this month under "A few Yummy Recipes", i think it was called. it is amazing!

Coconut oil is also a great hair moisturizer.

It turns to liquid at a low temperature, so works really well in frozen deserts to harden them.

It also has a lighter flavor than olive oil, so can be substituted for oil in most recipes.

I have had a lot of deserts made with it, it has a much nicer flavor than olive oil in deserts.

It works well in anything sweet, cookies, brownies, frozen pies, deserts.

I often use it in cake recipes, with walnuts, and dates, and cinnamon, and then I use the coconut oil to hold it all together and make it more creamy.

I am thinking of trying some coconut oil. Do folks here have a favorite? Have any of you tried more than one brand?

I am looking at raw coconut oil from David wolfe's site from Fiji, as well as raw coconut oil from Jamaica on the essentialoil.com website, and I also found another raw coconut oil distributor on a website called
wildernessfamilynaturals.com. They have two kinds on this site- one called a traditional Phillipine coconut oil and also a centrifugal coconut oil from somewhere else. They say the centrifugal oil has had less heat applied but that both are alive and have enzymes.

Please share your experiences and thoughts on coconut oil.

Thanks again!

I have been using coconut oil for a couple of years now. Mostly I use it as a moisturizer and it has worked wonders on my skin. Most people who meet me think I am only 16 but I'm 27! It is great in "baking" and in smoothies. I have been using the organic coconut oil by Omega Nutrition. It is reasonably priced. It is about $15.00 for a 2 lb container at any of my local health food stores in Winnipeg, MB.

halolessangel, is omega nutrition's organic coconut oil raw? Just curious?

Anyone else recommend any specific RAW coconut oil?

Thanks again!

good suggestions ladies. thank you. one more question.....

it is solid at room temp. i put it in warm water for a bit and then added some to my smoothie. when i drank it, it was like i had chopped up candle wax in my drink. kinda wierd but tolerable.
when you use it as a salad dressing, does it do the same thing since the veges are not warm???

On Omeganutritions website and on the jar it says that it is expeller pressed (cold) and has no solvents, additives, chemicals or bleaching.

I was so tickled to find a quaint little shop in Salina today that carried all kinds of raw and organic stuff. I got my first jar of Cocunut Oil today too. I dipped my finger in it and took a bite... HEAVEN! The name brand is Spectrum Naturals, it is expeller pressed Organic Coconut oil. I found a few other goodies and I can't wait to go back for more! :D
