I have been 100% raw since Sept 21. expect for a few days when I went to a furneral last month and vegas. Other than that I have stayed on track. Since last Thursday I have been detoxing bad since Thursday with a bad fevor, feeling achy and tired. Last night I was searching on here, knowing I needed to incorporate more greens in my diet I stumbled upon green smoothies. So, last night I decided to make one. I made it with : 1 banana, 1 orange, a few strawberries, 4 collard green leaves, and a romain lettece leaves and I added some raw agave nector to make it sweet. It tasted good, and when I woke up I had never felt better! I imediately told my fiance who is in afghanstan that he needs to order a blender so he too can make these green smoothies! I was in amazment.. until... this morning, when I made the same thing, with the same ingrediants.. and then a few hours later I felt sick. I decided to lay down, but that wasnt' enough.. I had to RUN to the bathroom and I threw up the green smoothie. I was disappointed because all those vitamins and minerals were now going down the drain instead of down my body! Did I make it wrong? Can I drink them twice a day? I just want to know what happened.

Missrawdiva,
The symptoms you were experiencing were a cause for celebration. It took my body TWO YEARS on a 100% raw diet to produce a full-blown healing event that included a high fever. The last thing you want to do when this happens is find something that makes it stop! The first time you drank the smoothie, your body was obviously able to suspend its deep cleansing efforts temporarily and deal with the food. The second time, it was apparently not able to do that; perhaps the smoothie encountered something else in the stomach or digestive tract that rendered it indigestible or something held up its digestion and caused it to ferment, or any number of other reasons.

You weren't sick because you need to eat more greens. You were sick because your body was using its newly regained vitality (owing to your recent dietary improvements) to release old stored wastes. Greens are not magical foods. Greens should not be eaten unless a person likes them. They should certainly not be disguised with fruit in order to sneak them past the taste buds. The only redeeming value of green smoothies is the same as any other transitional food -- entertainment. To the extent they keep people from eating worse things, they are good, but they are not optimal nutritionally. Optimal digestion happens when foods are chosen according to the senses (if you like the way they taste, smell, feel and look) and are eaten one at a time in their whole, unprocessed, unadulterated state.

Acute symptoms like achiness, fever, mucus discharge, etc., are CONSTRUCTIVE. They should not be interfered with. The real waste wasn't the smoothie going down the drain but all the repair that your body could have accomplished if it had been allowed to. :) Next time it happens, the best thing to do would be to stop eating completely and drink only water as dictated by thirst.

Best wishes,
Nora

Can I drink them twice a day?

You can drink them 3-5 times a day ~ although personally, I'd change the ingredients every so often to get a vairety of nutrients ~ when your body feels to ingest food again. Until then let it rest and heal.

Oh, I agree with Rawnora - it wasn't the smoothie at all. It's your body detoxing! And that is a good thing. Continue to drink them. Your body will thank you.
