Hello everyone. This is my first time on here and will be my first time trying out the raw food diet. I am confused and need help though. I have questions too so if anyone could answer that would be so great! here are my questions:
Can you eat fruit?
If so are any fruits off limit?
Can you eat an unlimited amount of fruit?
Does it matter the order in which I eat everyday like if i ate a fruit and than later ate a vegetable and than just one or the other?
Can you drink fruit flavored bottled waters like fruit2o?
How many times a day should I be eatting?
Please someone help I would like to get started asap!

Best advice I can give you is to read Alissa Cohen's book.

You can eat anything you want as much as you want as long as it is raw. If you start there you will find out which raw foods support you best and which you may want to cut back on, but in the beginning just go for it. Generally, any "flavored" drinks are not raw or natural, and even bottled juice is not raw because of the processing. The only juice that is raw is fresh squeezed or juiced. I hope that helps.

There are 'fresh' foods, there are 'living' foods and there are 'raw' foods.

You can start out with all of these on your journey.

*FRESH - anything that has come off a plant - e.g. fruits, vegetables, greens, etc. - everything in the product section that hasn't been bottled or packaged (with the exception of lettuces, fresh bagged produce, etc.)

*LIVING - living foods are usually things that have been sprouted, or soaked nuts - note - some previously cooked and fermented foods are considered "living" i.e. kombucha, miso, Nama Shoyu (soy sauce), etc.

*RAW - these are things that are not particularly fresh but can still be considered better than cooked - nuts, seeds, 'raw' nut butters, 'raw' processed foods such as Lara Bars, olives that have not been canned, things you might see in the health food store that have been packaged or jarred that says "raw" on it.

Anything that has been bottled, canned, jarred or otherwise processed and packaged in some way are 99% of the time not optimal on the raw diet.

As for when to eat, how to eat, etc. That is all up to you. Just eat as your body and tastes guide you. No need to worry about food combining in the first few weeks/months since you need to get accustomed and familiar with this style of eating first.

Yes, I started without Alissa's Book...but now that I have it, wow...I have a lot more options than I knew about. Secondly, she teaches you how to sprout...the proper time to soak nuts. Yadayadayada! ;)
Stick to the produce section...if it grew off a tree or out of the ground and they didn't do anything to it...it's golden! LOL
Go to your local healthfood stores and purchase raw nuts.
Raw Olive Oils and Raw Coconut Oils are allowed too! Even raw chocolate and raw carob. Click at the top of the page on Alissa Cohen. That will bring you to her site. Look under store...and then foods! She has some amazing products!
This is a journey....the longer you are on it, you will discover what works for you and what doesn't...what's raw and what isn't. Read...read...read! Raw (((HUGS)))

Hello there,

Congratulations on discovering raw and welcome!!

Yes, you can eat all the fruit you want!!! Fruit is our natural food. We biologically suited to a fruit based diet with smaller amounts of tender vegetables and nuts and seeds. Eat lots of fruit, make sure your nuts and seeds are raw and you will do great!!

All the best,

Audrey

I would like to add a note saying be weary of weird lab formed fruit. I still shudder over the grapple. There is just something not right about that.

no (except .. like blueberry mentioned .. lab created ones like "grapple")
yes.
not really, no.
it isnt raw, so that would be up to you.
as much as youd like. some days i eat nonstop, other days i eat maybe once.

can you eat nuts? if so like what kind? can they be prepackaged from a store?yes. any kind so long as theyre raw. if theyre prepackaged, unless they saw RAW, theyre probably dry-roasted. sometimes ive seen RAW ALMONDS at jewel, though. best bet usually is to buy in bulk..the bins will say RAW if theyre raw. (raw almonds, raw brazil nuts, etc)

good luck :)
