Hi,

Does anyone know if you can actually combine cabbage with fruit to make a green smoothie? I've never come across any green smoothie recipes that incorporate cabbage. If it is possible to combine cabbage with fruit, does anyone have any good green smoothie suggestions to incorporate the cabbage?

I don't see why you couldn't. I personally wouldn't care for the taste as it is so strong, but I'm thinking if you have a Vita-Mix or a high speed blender, yeah, have at it!
Let us know please how it worked out. I would think you would have to have a strong fruit to hide the taste.

Here's something else:

8oz pear (green on the outside)
4oz cabbage
2oz celery (plus stick to stir, decorate and dip)
1oz watercress
Juice and drink : )

Supposedly an intense detox drink

I haven't tried this recipe yet, but it is one I found and sounds yummy.

Mango Grape Cabbage Infusion

Juice fresh organic green and/or red cabbage.
Juice red champagne grapes. Mixture becomes a beautiful rose.

The ratio of cabbage to grapes is deciding here. Cabbage yields to the nutty, slightly bitter taste, whereas the grapes lift into sweetness.

Blend [not juice] mango and then add the grape/cabbage juice mixture.

I don't have a blender so I don't make smoothies, but I do make juice with cabbage in it pretty regularly.

When I make green juice, I use:

half a lemon
a couple handfuls of spinach
2-3 leaves of cabbage
2-3 leaves of collard greens
Sometimes I use beet greens in this juice, sometimes I don't, but if I do, I use 2-3 leaves
1 apple
2-3 carrots

It's really good. Mostly, it just tastes like lemon though.

I use red and green cabbage in my smoothies all of the time. Honestly, no one ever knows it is in there, so I must cover it up very well with the other stuff I use. My kids gobble them down!

So what else do you put in these smoothies with your cabbage?

at a vitamix demo I saw he was putting cabbage (green) into frozen strawberries and apple juice concentrate. The people were not noticing the cabbage taste, so it's probably quite possible to put it in there in a way that is pleasant.

Good idea, because cabbage is great for calcium, and also cancer-preventing elements. I read a recommendation to get 1/4 cup of brassica family veggies EVERY day to get the cancer preventing effect of the study.

Thanks for all your suggestions. I look forward to trying some of the recipes above.

Based on some of your earlier comments and the food I had in my house, I just tried this recipe and it was very tasty.

Blend:
1.5 cups of collard/cabbage juice
1 large apple

Delicious :)

KISS

Just make a smoothie and throw some cabbage in it. It's quite good.
