I know this is a stupid question...what does sad stand for? Or is it just 'unhappy'?

SAD stands for standard american diet. Dont worry in the beginning I didnt know either. Best of luck to ya!

Dr. Joel Furhman refers to it as MAD (Modern American Diet)

I'm thinking it's WMD - world mad diet or weapons of mass destruction, which is what SAD is really, when you think about it, right?

Maybe we need a new acronym - we've got junky diets in other parts of the world as well, not just in America.

It more generally refers to "Seasonal Affective Disorder" which relates to lack of sunshine. You likely knew that though. So in those cases, the cure is sunshine or a special light box. In our case, the cure for SAD (Standard American Diet) is RAW. YAY!

I think you're right about needing a new name, it would take awhile to change everyone over to it. You could also look at it as SAD has been exported to the world, so it is still SAD even if it is in Europe, Asia or Africa.

Standard Typical Diet,that is- that can apply to anyone anywhere...whatever their typical diet in their country is!

here are a couple more that came to mind:

MED (Most Eaten Diet)

TED (Typically Eaten Diet)

I don't know...SAD just has such a nice ring to it - I say Americans keep it and those in other countries, well, you'll just have to come up with your own! :p
