Some people encourage just drinking vegetable and green juices when fasting.
(less fructose for the body to process).

Others prefer orange juice, fruit juices, or a variety of juices (varied nutrients).

Orange juice, carrot, beet juices can spike the blood sugar. It may be
best to avoid or combine with other juices, especially for longer fasts.

IMPORTANT: HOW TO BREAK A FAST

Generally, it is recommended to transition 1 day for every 2 days fasted. I start with diluted juice after a longer water fast. Then, transition with juices and fruit. Eating gets the digestive track going again. I make a conscious effort to chew everything very well, when transitioning. Also, I eat small amounts of food more frequently.... rather than eating meals... when first returning to eating. That is what works well for me.

http://www.freedomyou.com/fasting_book/how%20to%20break%20a%20fast.htm

HOW TO EAT AFTER A JUICE FAST:
http://www.juicefasting.org/fast.htm

There are various views about fasting. It is wise to 'listen' to your body.
And, do what is best for you, throughout a fast.

If there is a link not working... please post on this thread so it can be corrected. Thanks! :D

As for me, I'm starting a fast tomorrow...

I've learned to enjoy fasting... but used to struggle with it. I've done one day fasts and other short fasts etc... all were good for me!

This time I'm going to focus on a longer fast...

Looking foward to sharing a variety of fasting journeys!

A bright and positive day for all...

I am just learning to fast and have done a 1 day juice fast and a 2 day juice fast. I want to do a longer fast but my job is physical and requires a lot of energy. I also dont want severe detox. Does juicing cause major detox or do you think I will be able to keep my energy up if I do 7 days of juice??

meinleben
11-03-2006, 01:45 PM
i am on day 4 of a juice fast(which includes comming off caffeine addiction)....day 2 and 3 were hard....today is better....

i normally work out daily...while i am juicing i do not have the energy to work out...i am a PE teacher and i am fine at work...play with kids....be on my feet all day....i am not as energetic although not to the point where i would stay home or anything like that....

i will probably end at day 5 because i am losing weight quickly which was not my intention...it was really just to cleanse, give my intestines a break, and come off caffeine....

the best green juice i have been drinking is 2 cucumbers, 1 bunch celery, 2 coconut water...(just add the coconut water to the juiced cucumbers and celery)....

Hey Jen... You might consider trying a 3 day fast into a weekend... to see how that feels for you. For me, I've found it easier to fast longer the more I've fasted. Maybe a series of shorter fasts would work better for you. They would have good benefit too.

If you decide to do a week fast... Since your job is so physical... maybe you could drink some juice every 2-3 hours... to keep your energy up. Carrot juice is said to be a good energy juice... you can do combinations with that.

Hey Meinleben... Congrats with your fast! Your green juice looks great... Do you open coconuts for it?

I've decided to start my fast on Monday... will work better for me. :p

hello
today is day 5 for me (juicing)....yesterday was a huge turning point for me...i really felt bad days 1, 2 & 3....headaches, achy, pale, dark circles under eyes, red eyes, super low energy.....and dammm hungry

then at day 4.....i started feeling really good....bright eyes....light....sharp...
got my personality back....less aches....not hungry....really....i mean...don't get me wrong....if someone were to put a nice raw meal before me i would want it....but i was not looking for it and not thinking about food much at all...

so today is day 5 and i am solid....a little weak....but i truly feel like i got over that really hard part...

also faster...i was reading about fasting and read that the SINGLE MOST IMPORTANT PART OF FASTING is ....breaking a fast correctly....this is where most people make major mistakes...so before any type of fasting i recommend that you do a little reading/research....

be well

Hey Meinleben... I'm so glad you're feeling good... sounds like you've done some great detoxing! Your green juice sounds sooo good... :p

I'm so glad you mentioned how important it is to break a fast correctly.

Do you have any suggestions for breaking a fast... or know of a website with good information for that?

Hi All... :D

Cheering all of you on that are fasting!

BREAKING FASTS: I'm glad Meinleben mentioned how important it is to break fasts correctly. I've seen different information regarding this. Overall, it is important to eat small amounts of raw fruits and maybe veggies... if you've been water, juice, or liquid fasting. This will stimulate your digestive system to get going again.

Also, it is suggested to take one day for every two days fasted... in working slowly back into eating. For me, I like doing a light combination of juices and fruit... then I add some raw soups... as I slowly work my way back into eating.

Miss Linda has some good insights for breaking fasts in her FASTING 101.

TODAY IS THE DAY! I am so excited to be starting my fast today! I've been looking foward to it! I learned to enjoy fasting... and will take it a day at a time. I am hoping to do an extended fast... which will be a first for me!

Wishing everyone a bright and beautiful day! :p

hi. I'm on Day 3. I'm feelin' "stuck" in my emotions, my weight (haven't lost any on thsi fast, but I did lose 5 in preparing for this fast by eating light). The only signs of detox: a little tired and a little moody. It just seems like the fast is stretched out in front of me and it might as well be 1000 days. I don't have a set plan, I'm trying to just listen to my body. I'm on a juice and water.

Detox has been super easy this time around-no major headaches like the last couple of times. I'm guessing that I will be feelin' lousey pretty soon. I just think I might be "cleaner" than I thought.

I fasted in the early part of the year and ate high raw for 4 months. So I've only been bad for 7 months...but I expected my detox to be as bad as it was the first time around.

anyway-I'm rambling, but the basic stuff is that I am feeling kinda blue about the fast. I'm feeling alone and tired and irritated. I don't feel sick , but then that little voice starts tellin' me that I'm doing this for nothing, ya know?

JEN
11-07-2006, 04:43 PM
Wow, Im really hungry and cranky today!!! Considered just waiting to fast later in the month. This is all new to me and Ive only done a 1 day and 2 day fast recently. It was pretty easy on those but this time I feel sooo hungry and my family is aggravated because Im so moody. Guess I'll see what happens...

Best of luck to all
Jeannie

11-07-2006, 05:21 PM
so what is it with the emotions? i mean I'm physically feeling okay, a little hungry, a little tired, but boy do I have no patience! so what's up with that, huh?

star1919
11-07-2006, 08:14 PM
Hi All...

I remember reading that fasting pulls up old emotions... I know that has been true for me in some other fasts I've done. It seems like the body and emotions cycle during fasts... from very light and energized moments to some detox and heavier emotions. Maybe that is a natural part of the healing and clearing process.

Stress and emotions have been linked in various ways to causing illness. I've even read that the cells in the body hold emotional memory. Maybe the silver lining of going through some of this during a fast... is to release both emotions and physical toxins. Maybe this is why fasting creates more radiant health and well being.

There are a few things I do that help me in dealing with detox and emotions.

I've noticed that fasting retreats offer meditation to help with these things. Meditation sure helps me. Listening to a meditation or relaxation CD would work well too.

I also do some deep breathing to release emotions when I'm in the middle of a busy day. Really helps.

And, I tap some accupressure points I learned through EFT (emotional freedom technique) and that helps me get unstuck if emotions come up. Here is a link to the EFT site if that interests you. Also, they have a free manual if you are interested in learning EFT.

Hi!

I am starting a fast today!

I have been having problems sleeping...tossing and turning....not good rest.
I am also having TMJ issues...that would benifit from not chewing...hoping to see it that will help heal it.

I will be fasting on green vegetable juices.....beet juices..sprout juices...maybe a little apple.

I have no set time...just day by day. That is what works best for me...less anxiety!

I will also be taking vialzymx three times a day and NCD zeolites.

Day 6 for me. All I can think of is crackers and wine. I hope it is because those things are leaving my body. Is it strange to still be so focused on junk food after five full days of juice fasting. I think the reason may be that everyone around me is eating subs and pizza and seafood platters and cookies and brownies and chips and on and on. And I have held strong because I really feel like fasting right now, but my favorite junk (the crackers and wine) keeps popping into my head! I do plan to get in at least one more day of fasting and then a few days of simple fruits, and I don't want to be dreaming of junk because I never want to eat or drink that stuff again. It is just too addictive and also makes me feel too sick to function well.

Thanks for listening! I don't say any of this to my husband because he will come home with crackers and wine thinking that will make me happy. And of course I will eat and drink and be miserable! So it helps me to be able to write it here instead. Thank you.

Freedom Lane... You're doing great! :D

Speaking from very recent experience *grins* ... the thing I've noticed is that when I've slipped and eaten something not raw... it usually isn't as good as I remember it being... and it is getting that way more... the longer I'm raw.

Just to mention... Have you ever had raw crackers? There are some recipes in the food preparation section of this site... just use the search option if that interests you sometime.

Messed up HUGE. Feel kinda sick. I ate nuts, turkey balonga, and oil popped popcorn. It was not pretty. But I'm gonna get back on tack and try to go at least another week, maybe 2. I was thinking that maybe I would fast til next weekend, then just eat fruit for 2 days, then fast for another week. Maybe that's a dumb idea? i dunno.

Purl... you are so funny! :p

As for me, this has been a week of some social things and a special night out last night. Such joy in that! It can be a challenge with fasting at times... as to what is the greater priority.

Overall, I am wanting to experience the benefits of a longer fast before the year is out. I am going to restart my fast on Monday. I have made some changes in my schedule so it will be easier for me... onward I go!

A joyful day to all! :D

Purl
11-12-2006, 04:30 PM
Day 8 went good. I spent 5 hours at the mall. There's nothing like trying on clothes to motivate one to do an extended fast! LOL! Actually I had a GREAT time. I used to be 22/24 and now I am a 10!!! I don't go clothes shopping. In fact I haven't gone in years. I just order stuff online and send it back if I don't like it-but today was GREAT! I bought MEDIUMS!!! So onward and upward. Oh and a very valuable lesson was learned lastnight-DO NOT PIG-OUT the 1st time you eat. I think I hurt my stomach. My abdomen and intestines have been extremely tender all day. I cross-my-heart-hope-to-die that I will NEVER do that again!

star1919
11-12-2006, 05:57 PM
Speaking of lessons... mine has been to prepare for the fast better. Last week when I joyfully leaped into the fast... I only thought of what I would need to do physically for the fast. I didn't consider the upcoming social things I had... or how others might respond to my fasting in those situations... or how I might feel. I was unprepared for it... and in that, didn't put myself in a position to succeed with fasting.

I've learned from last week and changed some things... and even let my family know I will be fasting at Thanksgiving this year. I shared that this important to me right now. They will be great about it! So, it is foward from here... I've put myself in a position to succeed with a longer fast. I am restarting my fast Monday.

Miss Linda mentioned a CD awhile ago... I am listening to it for the first time this afternoon and it is beautiful... It is Fairy Heart Magic by Gary Stadler.

Wishing everyone a lovely evening...

Day 9. Doin' okay. I knwo what you mean about the social stuff. I've decided to fast for Thanksgiving too. I don't think that's gonna go over well, but since my GMIL is vain I think I will tell her I am fasting to look good at dh's company christmas party which is 1 week after thanksgiving. She wouldn't understand fasting for healing or raw foods or anything-and I don't want to spark a debate. She will probably be offended, but that's not unusual! LOL! :p

Day 11. Weight 149.5!! Oh yeah! I made it. I'm in the 140s. I haven't been here since I was 21 and single. LOL! I think I weighed about 145-148 when I met my dh in '96. Wow. I can't believe it. Fasting is awesome! I wanted so badly to stuff my face last night after having such a rough day, but I didn't. I held out. Curbing my emotional eating has been getting better and better and better lately.

So here's to day 11!

Yesterday went good, cramps went away, so maybe it was a healing thing. BUT last night, in a 1/2 sleep state, I got up and ate. I ate 2 bites of peanutbutter, and on the 3rd realized what I was doing and spit it out! Yesterday I had been SOOOO hungry-I think I had too much pulp. I was just STARVING yesterday-so I think my body woke up and got something to eat. I wasn't really awake until the 3rd bite.

Anyway-I'm super tired today and feel kinda weak. I'm sure it is detox and/or stress.

Day 13 and down 12 lbs. :p Yesterday was pretty easy. The hunger seems to have gone away again. Had 2 glasses of juice yesterday, compared to the 3/4 of a gallon the day before. :o Almost the the 1/2 way mark! I can't believe it!

star1919
11-17-2006, 08:21 AM
Yea Purl! You're doing great! Not sure about the insomnia... but for me on other fasts I have had nights where I slept less... and times I was tired and slept a little more... wonder if it is part of the healing and detox process...

Speaking of tired... last night I felt that a lot... but woke up good this morning... yea! :p

11-18-2006, 06:32 AM
Have had some detox... yea! Need to remind myself that is a good thing... Mostly feeling light and energized.
It is amazing the timelessness I feel when fasting beyond a few days.

Not sure about the water thing right now... my tendency is to feel drinking a lot of water is valuable. However, a friend of mine said her holistic doc suggested she only drink when thirsty. Yet, I've read so often that if you're thirsty you're already dehydrated. Hmmmm...
Guess I'll stay with drinking plenty of water for now. If anyone knows more about this, your thoughts would be so appreciated.

Cheering all fasters on! :D

Today is day 14. Didn't lose any weight this morning. I must be healing something else right now. Gonna go for a 4 mi walk/jog this morning. I need to stay busy. If I'm not busy I think about food. I'm a little worried that I'm not gonna lose enough for the Christmas party I am going to in 2 weeks. I'm getting smaller, but my actual SHAPE is not changing, it's shrinking, but not changing. I am still very round around my middle and I have no real waist. I was hoping the fast would eat large amts of fat off the middle of my belly instead of everywhere else first.

Sorry not more upbeat. I think it's cuz the scale didn't move today. So some days it feels like I am doing this for nothing.

havin' the detox blues. everyone is on my nerves and i'm bored of fasting, but i don't want to eat. no food is very appetizing. that's a good sign, right?

star1919
11-18-2006, 07:57 PM
Hi Purl... if you don't have an appetite then the fast may still be a good idea. As you probably know... if you do return to eating take it very slow. Allow your body time to adjust to regular digestion again. I usually go with juices, small amounts of fruit to phase back in... the chewing is important to reactivate your system.

As for weight loss... it sure does seem the body varies from day to day... it is a process. And, that may be part of the discouragement you're feeling today. Whatever you choose... like you said... you're in the 140's... and I recall your excitement about that! :D

As for emotions... for some reason fasts do bring up some old emotions. It is more than a physical detox... so take it gentle with yourself... this too shall pass.

Whatever you decide, you're doing and have done great!

Fasts vary... even for the same person doing them. They are so healing and clearing for the body... however the days of actual fasting are.

Woke up feeling light and energized. I'm in a phase where I'm needing less sleep and up quite early. So, time for longer walks with my dogs... they like that! :D

Bizarre nightmare last night.
Only down 1/2 a pound today.
Felt an adhesion from a c-birth, let go yesterday.
Some small odd pains in my lower back, lasted only a couple of minutes. Incontinece has improved.
Skin has improved slightly.
Tongue still gray.
Occasional blocked right ear canal
On and Off stuffiness.
Switching to water midday today, hope to go 1-3 on just water.

Hi Purl... Hope it's been a good day for you. Wonderful all the time with your fast already.
You're holding the course and are doing great! :D

I'm headed out for the holiday. I'll be back next week. I'll be fasting through Thanksgiving.
Probably the only time I'll ever do that, but that is how the timing worked out this year.
My family knows and will be okay with it. I sure appreciate that. It will help a lot!

Wishing you a joyful holiday... :p

Let's see-today is Day 17 and I weigh 145. That's 15 lbs gone! :D Woke up feeling a little bit better than I have been, so that's good. I feel motivated today-but today is goign to be all water, so by the end of the day I suspect I will be crabby! LOL!

Purl
11-22-2006, 09:13 AM
Day 18 and still 145. I have been on water for 36 hours. Oh well. I woke up with my lungs all congested with SUPER thick icky stuff and my nose was a little stuffy. I am a little tired and to top it off I got my cycle thismorning so I am having cramps both in my abdomen and back. Today is not fun-but I suspect tomorrow will be better. I have been getting small fleeting bursts of energy, but nothing that sustains for more than 10-30 minutes. Hoping to get time for a brisk walk in the cool air today if dh gets home in time to watch the dc before it's too dark.

Hi All...

On this wonderful holiday trip, I am having so much fun! And, feeling good with this fast. There have been moments... like when I was helping cook (something I have always loved doing SAD and RAW) Anyway, I had family being taste testers while cooking. Not one taste by me. By the time the Thanksgiving meal came, it was a breeze to get through...

There has been some concern with my fasting... saying 'just eat a little'. A few questions and comments, that it might not be healthy to fast like I am... water. I've just thanked them, hugged them... and shifted the focus of conversation. Adding, that I will be eating at Christmas.

It seems too much to try to explain the healing process of fasting... without causing concern with the word 'healing'. My biggest challenge has been, to want to have what I am doing be comfortable and positive for others... not wanting my fasting to take away from the joy of our being together.

But, after a few days here with my energy being good each day. That seems to have helped... especially my long racewalking walks every day and being bright eyed and happy. I think many of us just aren't used to being around fasting and the positives of doing it. So... it is all systems go... with my gratitude for the wonderful family I have! :p

As for staying with this fast, it has helped that I've done so many shorter fasts before this one. And, that I was far enough into this fast, that all my hunger is gone. The other fasts seemed to have cleared some of the harder detox. I just keep reminding myself, that the fasting is giving me what I want. A moment of eating something (lots of tempting stuff around) won't give me what I want right now. I feel empowered and free!

Wishing everyone a happy holiday weekend... :D

Hey Purl... How are things going for you?

Thank goodness for gum! Last night I was watching a couple movies with the kids... I breezed past the popcorn and other things. But, the cocoa... all of the sudden I wanted some

It was an almost... as I rationalized it was liquid. Fortunately, I had gum... what a lifesaver! Guess that's the thing about fasting... it is a day by day journey. Just when I'm feeling confident of fasting in any situation... I have a moment of true wavering. (And, if I had given in to that... who knows what else... lots of temptations around here.) I'm so glad I made it through... Whew! :D

Hi guys,

Just wanted to jump in here :) I've been doing the Master Cleanse (Lemonade, Maple Syrup, Cayenne) on and off for the past few weeks, but I haven't been able to go on a consistent 21 day fast like I've planned. I think right now is the best time, right before the holidays. I ate 20 tater tots. I am so dumb. I'm going to bed now to cry. I am mad at myself because I am sabatoging myself, again. and it really really sucks. I don't understand why I make it impossible to reach my goals. I do this in most areas of my life. I set a goal, then work towards it, for a bit, and then when I am getting close, I freeze up and do something stupid to make sure I can never get there.

Day 2 of Round 2. feeling good. Had an AWFUL headache last night, but since I have been pretty good I think it was detox of the OTC cough meds that I took. it was a crushing headache and enough to make me swear off that stuff FOREVER. I had a lot of energy yesterday. I cleaned the house for a few hours and did lots of errands. Today I feel like I have a decent amt of energy too. I have lots of things to do again today. The best days are busy days. I joined www.settingcaptivesfree.com to help me with my food issues. i think it's really going to help me get the right perspective in my life.

My fast ended tonight. This morning my dr put me on a med to help with my 9 year battle with insomnia and I'm not comfortable taking meds and fasting at the same time. I am hoping that this med will be short-term. We both think it is due to having 4 children in 5 years and having to get up with them several times a night. My 3 year old still wakes frequently. Anyway-it was really nice fasting with you and good luck!

Hi All...

This fast is going well. There are a few things I'm doing... meditation, aromatherapy baths, energy body work... including reiki and accupressure. I think these things help with the detox process. These things can be readily learned.

I've also noticed, that even after hunger subsides during fasting... I have occasionally felt emotional hunger... in certain situations. It seems like much of this comes from food and a sense of smell... so I carry a small bottle of Anise extract... that smells like black licorice. It helps to curtail food cravings in those situations. I've also kept gum with me... so if I'm really tempted, then chewing gum helps me to pass on eating anything.

I've read so much that encourages taking it easy during fasting. I feel better with some light exercise while fasting. It probably helps the body with detoxing too. I like walking, stretching, and tai chi. I am keeping up with a full and active life.

I'm going to let this fasting thread close. I don't think sharing my fast beyond this, has that much value. Fasts vary so much from person to person. I did want to share some of the things... that make fasting easier for me. The more a person fasts, the more comfortable they will be doing it. I am going to continue this fast until the 10th if that works well for my body. Then, I'll shift to juices for awhile... and then add in some fruit and transition back into eating.

I think fasting has great value for healing and clearing the body. It is good with the spirit too.
I still like shorter fasts and will do more of them.

Wishing all fasters a good journey... and everyone a festive and joyful holiday season! :D

I started an apple cleanse today, and it's getting a little tough for me. I'm going 100% raw on Monday after my cleanse, so it's hard to imagine that I won't be eating anymore cooked foods.

Hi Auroral... Welcome to this forum! Love your avatar... :p

An apple cleanse sounds great! I would like to try one sometime. Hope it is going well for you! As for raw eating, I love it! It has made such a difference in my energy, radiance, and positive health!

Going 100% to raw has been effective for some. Others transition by adding more and more raw to their diet. I loved the foods and ate mostly raw from the start... a high raw with a small amount of vegan diet. Overtime, my tastes changed naturally and I found it easy to transition even more.

I highly recommend green smoothies! Spinach is a mild green for that and there are lots of other combinations you may enjoy.

Wishing you a fun and radiant raw journey... :D

I'm planning to start an apple fast on tuesday also! I just got back from the store with tons of apples! :) The exercise walking to the store and back was worth it too.

My plan for this fast: give my body a digestion break, clear up my skin, clean up my insides a bit and just have a clear separation between classes and assignments and the upcoming finals in front of me. I'm hoping it will help me to focus on my studies also!

Good luck on your fasts everyone!

Can I join you?

I just found this place while searching for info on the raw diet.

I am on day 8 of my juice fast. Day 4 was my most difficult, but so far so good. This is not my first fast, but it is my longest.

A little of background on me----I am married with 5 kids. We are missionaries. I was 230lbs almost 5 years ago but lost 87lbs. When we went back to the States, I gained 20 back---and I didn't even eat sugar.

Discouraged, I turned to fasting. I am finding great results. I hope to clear up a few health issues as well.

After this fast, I intend to eat all of not mostly raw. I intend to control my portions instead of my food controlling me.

I'm glad this board is here!!! :)

Hi PixieLed... your apple cleanse sounds great! I would love to try one and would be interested in what is is like.

Hi Simone 24... green smoothies... what a good way to transition into a fast. Remember to drink plenty of water... smaller amounts throughout the day and evening may work well. Drinking tea may be helpful.

As for me, it was a good weekend with fasting. It has been cold so I've been drinking hot tea. I like to mix green tea with any herbal flavors I enjoy. It sure helps me get through the cold weather.

We are in Bulgaria.

We have WONDERFUL produce here!!! So tastey!!!

But we also have wonderful unhealthy foods. The fresh baked breads have been my downfall.

It really is time in my life to make a real change for the better!

I got my Mom to fast with me. She is in MI and I am in Bulgaria but with internet, we are never far apart.

She did 4 days and then her hunger got her. I was so proud of her for going so long. That was my hardest day too but I was able to push through it. Maybe that's because I've fasted before. She wants to try again in January. Maybe I'll direct her here.

Question----are y'all doing anything with bulk fiber to clean the intestines while fasting? What about enemas and colonics?

star1919
12-04-2006, 09:05 AM
Hi 5mks... Wow... you're in Bulgaria right now. What an amazing life experience, to live in another country and culture! And, to do it with a family... that's great! It will surely enrich your kids lives and views of the world. Wonderful you and your Mom are so supportive of each other. And, that you're able to stay in touch easily via internet.

As for your question. I did take a natural psyllium at the beginning of my fast. I have done enemas before but, have chosen not to do them on recent fasts. I was considering doing a 30 day intestinal cleanse... but it seemed like it might be too much for my system... while fasting. I decided to let my body naturally clear and cleanse itself.

Wishing you a great day! :D

Ok

I've only read Juice Fasting and Detoxification so I didn't realize that the body could naturally clean itself.

I'd like to know more about that. How does it work? Do you still elliminate?

Are there any online resources that I can read?

I love reading new things. It's my hobby!

star1919
12-04-2006, 05:36 PM
Hi 5mks... there are clearly differing views on fasting and enemas. When I've juice fasted in the past, I have done them. It is only recently that I am choosing a different path... I don't feel experienced enough with it... to recommend it. It seems most people are in favor of doing enemas while fasting. There is a lot of information regarding that on the internet.

Anyway, here are a couple of links for a quick read on not doing enemas.

http://www.fredericpatenaude.com/questions/fast.html

http://naturalhygienesociety.org/review/0501/enemas.html

It seems good to help the body with detoxing. Of the things I do... dry skin brushing seems especially valuable. I think walking and other movement... helps support the body in detox. Yet, there are different views on this as well. Paying attention to how fasting is feeling... for your body is the wisest course.

Something important, is how to break a fast. Generally, it is suggested to take 1 day of transition for every 2 days of fasting. I transition with juices and eating fruit to start. Eating helps get your digestive track going again. I pay a lot of attention to chewing everything very well... when transitioning out of a fast. When returning to eating, I choose small more frequent snacks rather than meals for awhile. That is what works well for me. Again, it's best to listen to your own body.

Hey Auroral... how is your raw journey starting out? There are two support threads going... in the Raw and Living Food Discussion main forum section... of this site. Maybe joining one of them, would be supportive for you, on your new raw journey.

Hey Simone 24... hope your day has gone well. :p

Hey PixieLed... wishing you a great start with your apple cleanse! It would be good to hear what you think of it... I am considering doing an apple cleanse as part of my transition out of my fast.

Hi everyone,

I just handed in all my assignments and finished my last school projects for the term. I'm also ramping up and getting ready for my apple fast tomorrow! I'm really excited about it. I also like all the apples I picked out, they seem to be calling to me. ;)

I will be sure to post my experiences and results after and maybe even during my fast for everyone to read. :) I'm thinking of starting it off with one day and if I feel like it's going well then I'm going to extend it to two days. :)

I've never fasted before so I'm really excited about the experience.

Good luck with your fasts everyone!

Just to mention... I have occasionally chewed gum on this fast. It helped me to not eat when tempted... in some social situations.
I just read, that it may not be advised to chew gum while on a fast.

I didn't feel any ill effects from doing this. But, I've posted a link for that information.
It is on the 1st page, 1st post of this thread... under HERB TIME FASTING INFO.

For me, it was a win... in sustaining my fast.
It may be wise, to read about not chewing gum while fasting.

Wishing everyone a great day! :D

Hi all! im on day three of my green smoothie fast. I thought by now I could switch to water but i see it`s a little more trickier than I thought it would be. For now I think it`s best if I stick to the smoothies since my job requires a lot of physical activity. I had a question for you star...do you think it`s a good idea to do a salt water flush while on a fast?

Hi. I have a question... on one of the fasting websites, I found info for making vegetable broth during a fast. What do you all think about sipping on veggie broth? The reason I asked is because I had about 6 oz of it and wanted to make sure that this was okay and isn't going to disrupt my fast.

Day 2 and its almost over!!!!

Love and Light,

Michelle

You guys are doing great! :D

Hi Michelle... day 2 almost done... yea! As for the vegetable broth... if that is a commercial broth, it probably has a lot of sodium in it. A natural vegetable juice warmed just to finger warm, so the enzymes are still active, would be a good choice. You can add a touch of cayenne to warm it up even more. Cayenne is good for the body. Also, I drink hot steaming tea while fasting. That helps warm me up!

Hi Simone 24... green smoothies sound like a great choice for you! I would like to hear what you think about it. I'm interested in doing this sometime. As for salt flushes... they can have benefit for extended fasts. I like them better than enemas  I don't think they need to done that often... but that is my view. A lot of fasting is trying things out and seeing what is best for you.

Here is a link to a forum about salt flushing... with people that probably have more experience with this than I do.

First day of apple fast is still going strong. I was surprised to find out how easy it is to fast on apples! I have never done anything similar to this before (no fasts in general) so it is a very cool experience. I felt very awake and full of energy the whole day! I even got tons of work done!

I'm not sure how many apples I ate really, probably about 8 or 9. I've also been drinking lots of water. I spent quite a bit of time reading about some cool recipes like the raw chili and the raw fajitas. I made some of Alissa's corn tortillas into some sort of "chip" today that I'm going to combine with my chili, once I make it.

It was a very interesting experience to be making food and not to eat it while I made it. The smells seemed to be stronger and gave me a hint of what the taste will be like.

My acne seems to be flaring up today with tons of "deep pimples" on my forehead above my eyebrows. I'm not sure if it's detox related or just general acne. I'm thinking of continuing this apple fast tomorrow, assuming all goes well for the rest of the night. Unfortunately I have a committee meeting at 10pm which could last many hours. I'm going to bring lots of apples and water with me though.

Yay to fasting, it feels good!

I have been drinking a ton and I feel so good!

I think I will also so the apple thing when coming off this fast.

But I feel so good, except for feeling tired---but that's just bc I have 5 homeschooled kids!

I decided to end my apple fast today because my bananas looked so good! I was able to stay on my apple fast last night though, so I'm quite happy. I went to bed with quite a headache, probably caused by the late night and the fasting. I woke up feeling nice and refreshed today though.

I will definitely be trying the apple fast again in the future, hopefully with someone else, like my mom. We'll see!

Good luck with your fasts everyone!

Day 11

I'm an emotional wreck. I really need to cry but am too frustrated to do it. Must be hormones? WHo knows. I really just want to go back to bed and see if I wake up on the right side.

The fast is going good. Today is carrot celery juice, along with a TON of water. I'm going for 2 liters today.

Better go. The kids need a snack and then it will be time for school.

Good luck, everyone!

Fasts have high and low energy moments at times... and there seems to be both physical and emotional clearing, detox. It is typical for fasts to bring up some old emotions. It is such a clearing journey. What is exciting to me is, the profound healing effect of fasting. It is a gift to the spirit too.

This fast has been going so well... I am so pleased about it. I will soon be transitioning to juices. I'll take some additional time with that, as this has been a fairly long fast. I feel so light and energized... so happy with this.

Wishing everyone a positive energized day! :D

I started an apple fast today. Went to the gym this morning, but was to lightheaded to workout. I found that odd, b/c I usually eat just fruit in the morning anyway. So far I have eaten four apples and feel pretty good. I am hungry and trying to fight it though.

My goal for this fast is to break my surgar cravings and to help me get to 100% raw. I just want to get through today and then will decide if I want to try for one more day. No more than two day though.

Hi everyone! I hope that we are all doing great and working through the not so great times!! I am on day 5 of my fast... I can't believe I am on day 5! I feel pretty good, and to be honest I haven't felt any extreme discomfort either. I am starting to feel like I am doing something wrong?? I just got my period and had a lot of discomfort and hunger pains last night. I wanted to ask about smoothies. I have read that you can still use them when you are juice fasting but that it will slow down the detox a little bit. Last night I have frozen fruit and a half of mango smoothie because the pain was really heavy. Do you guys think this is okay??

Also, I was planning to go for 7 days, but do you think that 10 days is better when fasting? This is my first time so I am not really sure, but I saw on a website, that at day 10 your body goes through ketosis.

Thanks for the advice and have a great day!!!

Everyone is doing soo great!

I did a 10 day juice fast at the end of September and Colonics was a huge part of the program- getting all those toxins out of the colon that the body is trying to rid itself of. I also did my first bout of trainig to become a colonic therapist and was able to see first hand how much of a physical and mental/emotional shift that people went thru even with just one session. All of them glowed and their energy soared. It was beautiful- and enough to make me ( who had a real phobia of this before) become a cheerleader for getting it all out. Over the past few months I have continued to stay on raw diet, as well as doing daily enemas. For about a week I was doing enemas 2x aday and the results have been wonderful. As I have continued to get all the toxic junk out of my intestines I have felt wonderful. Coming from a past of chronic fatiuge, and constant intestinal and abdominal problems- now all that is behind me. I would be more than happy to give you some feedback and some advice if you are interested. I especially belive that while you are juicing- and excess toxins are trying to leave the body that helping them along with some type of colon cleansing is important otherwise they will just redeposit them selves somewhere- or detox symptoms like skin erruptions, headaches etc.... will start to plague you. good luck on this journey- it is a wonderful way to live. peace

Hi Yogamy... information and wisdom varies greatly with fasting. There is a link, regarding enemas on this thread. It would be wonderful, if you could take a look at it. If you feel there's more information that's beneficial for fasters to know... if you have a link to a site you can share. Then, I'll add the link, to the 1st page of this thread (which has fasting info) so that other fasters can also benefit from your insights. Thanks

Here is a link to that enema information:

Hi Star1919- you are definitely right information and wisdom does vary greatly with fasting. That is why I believe that anyone who is doing a fast particularly for the first time should work closely with someone with expereince, someone who has taken that road and knows about the things one might expect.
Even so, we are all individuals and our bodies, minda and spirts will no doubt react with many different responses both to fasting, colon cleansing and for that matter any type of therapy be it alternative or what our society considers traditional. So we all need to see how we respond. As far as the enema site on curezone.com - it is very thorough- it is good to be presented with as much information as possible before you begin any process. As far as the information presented on becoming addicted to enemas- I do not belive that to be true. In my case the exact opposite has occurred- in fact my abilty to eliminate has enhanced - and I am back on a regular schedule just as I was before I began to do enemas. I will say that it took my body a few days at first when I stopped doing daily enemas, but then everything started working beautifully - I also give credit to the raw food for this as well.
I will say that everyone needs to pay attention to their own body --- with enemas and everything else. If your doing them and feel like it is too much- back off, if you are having wonderful results why not continue. My teacher who has trained me in colonic has had over 1400 colonics- he still contines to have waste evacuated. And he still continues to eliminate on his own. I would reccommed just starting with water- and not from the tap but distilled, or some reverse osmosis. And also if you are not eating yougurt- then taking a probiotic to help replenish the healthy flora in the body- invest in a good probiotic- one from the health store and not one from walmart or grocery- it will be more costly but is worth it. Usually ones that need to be refidgerated are most likey to be live, there are a few that do not need refidgeration- still more costly but possibly more convienent- take a few times a day.

I am beginning to feel hunger again. And I am all for listening to your body, so I see my fasting days coming to a close.

I am going to try to push past it and see what happens. But if the hunger persists, I will come off slowly, transitioning to the apple fast.

I was hoping to go 2 weeks. But, it's ok if I don't. It's all about listening to my body and doing what is right for me.

This is not my first fast, but it is my longest. I'm pretty proud of myself!!!!

Now that I am coming off, I am getting recipes together for my new raw lifestyle. I'm excited about it!!! Dh doesn't plan on going 100% with me, but says he will partake of tastey dishes when he sees them ;) I hope to win him over---if not 100%, at least 75%. That would be great!

Keep going, folks! What a wonderful fasting support site! This has been a great outlet for me. Thanks all!

I ate almost 1/4 of an apple this morning and had to stop. Stopping was difficult, bc I was raised that you clean your plate. I had 1/2 apple cut up to eat. So, I comprimised with myself and put the rest in the fridge for later. ANd I was proud of myself for stopping instead of pushing myslef to eat it.

Dh and I went for our first ever jog this morning. I am so out of shape so I got winded quickly. But I kept going. We jogged a small city block. We intend to do it everyday and expand our jog as we gain strength.

This fast has empowered me in so many ways. I feel encouraged to live as healthy as I can. I have 5 kids that need a healthy Momma!

So I am on mostly juice and for a few days will eat VERY small portions of juicy fruits.

I rawk!

Hi Yogamy... Thanks for taking the time to check out the link on enemas. And, for your generous help. I'll add some info about probiotics on the information fasting page.

Hi Everclear... day 1... Yea you! As for juices, there are a variety of views on this. Some feel that it is better to drink mostly vegetable juice combinations because it has less fructose for the body to process. Others prefer orange juice and fruit juice fasts. Drinking a variety of juices provides varied nutrients. One of the juices I like for fasting, is celery/apple. Great juice suggestions from 5mks. Lemon added to water, can help the liver with cleansing.

There are some juice links, on the first page of this thread. The Freedom You fasting site has both veg and fruit juice ideas. The Living Food link has good, simple juice combinations. I encourage you to try the juices you're drawn to... and listen to your body, how you feel.

Hi 5mks... Congratulations! You did great on your fast and it sounds like you're doing well starting your transition. I'm so excited for you with your new raw path... and your husband's openess to try some things. You are giving your family such a gift with this.

HI Star1919 and %mk and all others who are reading this!

The links you have at the beginning of this thread are wonderful- I especially love the one from the Freeedom You site- even though it is a bit pushy on the religious side I believe that the majority of the information is wonderful- especially the part on creating a sacred space for yourself while at home during the cleansing process. It is so important to not push ourselves to do the thousands of things we tend to over extend ourselves on during this time.

5mk- wonderful on your beginning to jog- build up to it slowly- and also do not underestimate the healthful benefits of walking along with the jogging. I have worked myself up from being a walker- 3 miles a day to now I am running 5k ( but I still alow myself to walk even before I feel like I need too) I try not to foucus on it in a goal oriented way- and be greatful to myself each time I make the effort. And also wonderful that your partner is out there with you- having someone to make the transition with you. good luck

Hello everyone! I am starting NOW!!! It is just past midnight and my fast begins..... I was reading curezone and was disheartened(Sp?) by the negativity. I find this board very upbeat and supportive. I am very excited to be here!! I am starting with the MasterCleanse recipe but my main goal is to avoid solid food for as long as I can. I am doing this for several reasons but one very important one - aside from physical health is I feel very addicted to food. I thought about other things in my life I have felt dependent on and how I stopped needing them via abstinence - so I thought this may work for food too. It just seems that I release all of my stress through a big bowl of something and it is getting out of hand - so here goes!! Good luck to all!

Orange juice is my best friend when fasting! lol... last night I started to feel hungry again, and I found 3 oranges that I had forgotten I had, so I juiced two of them, and the hunger went away! Fresh orange juice (well, all fresh juice) tastes so much better than the bottled stuff.

Star1919 - thanks for your welcome!! I am really doing some thinking about this whole matter - I was raw for about 2 years when I allowed my fruit intake to get too high and set off cravings - which I gave into- for cooked junk food. Next I looked into a high protein diet in hopes of regulating my blood sugar - that did work but I managed to overeat protein just as easily as any other food so in the end that backfired!! I am hoping that some time away from eating will help my overeating habbit. One thing that I find odd is I CRAVE grapes!! 24/7!! Only when raw though - when eating protein I never even think of them!! Any thoughts?

Thanks 5mks... look foward to seeing you around this site! :p

Hi jmmrun... I can appreciate what you shared. It sounds like you're well versed in eating raw which is great! Fasting can help with cravings and changing eating patterns.

Maybe you could start with an apple cleanse. There is a link about that... on the first page of this thread. If you wanted, you could include grapes with that. If you feel the fruit might be too much... vegetable juice fasts are very effective. Also, some people have fasted with green smoothies. Or whatever fast you may want to try.

Speaking of green smoothies... that made such a positive difference for me with raw eating. I also focus on salads and veggies. Then fruit... and then other things. I think there are different levels of raw eating that are beneficial. It is a matter of what you're wanting to do. Others have mentioned... that eating raw has helped with insulin and blood sugar levels. You could ask about this.. in the raw discussion or health sections of this site.

As for overeating... I used to be an emotional eater at times. There are a some simple things that helped me. Drinking plenty of water... thirst and hunger often get confused. I also drink a glass of water 20 min before eating... that does help with feeling full. And, our sense of smell can trigger emotional hunger... I carry a small bottle of Anise Extract... it smells like black licorice and helps curb those kind of cravings.

I found that food was how I rewarded or nurtured myself. I came up with new activities to replace that. I chose things that appealed to my other senses... aromatherapy baths, home beauty treatments, art, writing, meditating etc. Doing this was so much more fulfilling and fun... than just eating more. It helps to get moving too. I love walking and a few other things. This energizes me and I feel less like eating.

Whatever you choose to do... I find that much of what we do in a day, are just habits. We can add positive habits to replace the habits we want to change. In time, those new things become comfortable and what you're used to. It's amazing how small daily choices can create such positive changes!

Wishing you a great day! :D

star1919 - I was (still am) an emotional eater as well. That's a small reason why i'm doing a fast, because I honestly needed a break from food so I could try to concentrate on why I turn to food.

Day two of my fast is going much better! I felt hungry around 10am, but decided to take a nap so I could ignore the hunger pains. It worked! When I woke up (to a huge mess my sisters cat had made in the office *grr*) I wasn't hungry at all! :) Hopefully the rest of the day will go smoothly as well.

I am so glad I made time for this when I did. It has been quite an experience to go through holidays and parties at this time of year... fasting

After this... it may be easier for me... with raw eating in a variety of situations.

hi ya`ll I started a fast 2 weeks ago and I fell off the fasting wagon so to speak. I went out of town for a couple of days and was`nt properly prepared for fasting on the road. After the first 24 hrs out of town without the security of my blender to make my smoothies I went right back to SAD foods. Just from fasting after two weeks and going back to cook foods I could actualy feel the difference that cooked food does to you. To all you newbie fasters out there in rawville all that I am saying is don`t give up in your goals and stay focused! Now that i`m back home i`m going to start back on my green smoothie fast tomorrow, but this time i`m going to alternate with fruits so that I wont get tempted by my sweet tooth.

Hi Simone 24... you're doing great with the green smoothies! Mmmm... I'm considering doing a few days of that... before I transition into the apple cleanse. As for the apple cleanse... it is a cleanse eating apples. There is a link about it on the first page of this thread.

Wishing everyone a positive and energized day! :D

Thanx for the info I thought the apple cleanse was taking a whole bag of apples and juicing them down to a liquid form and drinking it.

Hi Simone 24... I didn't know what the apple cleanse was until recently either... when some others shared information about it. How are things going for you?

As for me... I am going to start eating small amounts of apple to get my digestive track activated again... and continue on with the juices. I'm feeling great! And, am so excited for how clearing this fast has been for me!

Wishing everyone a positive and energized day! :D

star that`s great that you were able to complete such a long fast! I hope someday I`ll be able to. As for me, these first couple of days has been tough but i`m not worried cause I know it`s the detox thats making me feel this way. I`m aiming for at least 2-3 weeks cause I have years of junkfood to get rid of. How long are you doing the apple cleanse?

12-15-2006, 10:43 AM
Hi Simone 24... you're doing great! :p Green smoothies... Mmmm...

I'll be doing juices and apple cleanse for a couple more weeks... it is wise to transition slowly after fasting. Generally, it's suggested... 1 day for every 2 days fasted. I may need to add a few Christmas pears along the way though...

Wishing everyone a positive, energized day! :D

Oh, regarding long fasts... I hear ya. I wanted to do that for quite awhile too... and now I have! It was easier than I thought it would be. I think doing a variety of shorter fasts overtime helped with that.

I'm going for 7-10 days on green smoothies and little bits of fruit. i'm on day 4 right now and doing great green smoothies are awesome

I did the master cleanse for 12 days a while ago but didn't like it to much (salt water  ).
I also did a juice fast for 10 days wich wasn't to bad but i craved cooked food and broke the fast in a horrible way :( .

so far on green smoothies i feel great i don't crave junk food and i think i'll be able to stay on 100% raw when i'm done :)

I am so proud of myself... two festive nights out in a row... and I stayed on course with juices... yea! After doing such a good fast, I want to support my body in a healthy transition. I sure think this fast has strengthened my commitment and resolve in social situations... and that it will help with my raw journey too! :p

Hi Simone 24 and Maple Tree... Hope all is going well for you!

As for me, have some holiday things to finish up... fa la la la... I feel so good going through the holidays this way! I'm joining in all the festiviites... but so different with fasting. I think it has changed the way I view holidays. I feel light and vibrant! Yet, haven't missed out on the fun... it is possible to enjoy things and still do this. I think raw eating will be easier for me, during these times now.

Wishing everyone a positive and energized day! :D

I am going to be starting a juice/smoothie.. fast on Wednesday...

I am not sure how long I will continue it. I have been getting debilitating migraines. Also, since I moved and started Grad. school this fall I have been completely off the wagon with my eating..and need to get back into eating Raw.

It is encouraging to read of all your fasting on the site.... :-) The best to you all...

Congratulations to you too.... How long have you been on your cleanse? And..had you been raw before?

I have a break of about 5 weeks..and need to get into some strong healthy patterns before next semester begins. I have been so sick with migraines this semester..I felt like I was going insane. Definitely not sustainable... :-(
When I moved I was not able to bring all of my stuff with me...so I am looking for a food processor and dehydrator..trying to get them on freecycle.. :-)

Have a beautiful day....

hi all! this weekend was petty tough but I over came it. DETOX! isn`t it grand? All I did this weekend was sleep, sleep, Sleep! I was too lazy to juice so I just stuck to water mostly. Today is a new day and i`m feeling great. If this keeps going well Ithink I might extend this fast. Good luck everybody with your fast.

Hi fasters...

I was wondering if any of you drink teas or other liquids when you fast..like almond milk..sesame milk etc....and how you feel when you do..whether you feel it affecting your detox or cleansing..and how..

I have had tea a couple of times with raw honey in it..and it is nice to have the warmth...especially in the evening..and in the morning instead of hot cocao...

I think I am going to get some almonds to make almond milk to have in some of my smoothies...

take care...

Hi Maple Tree... Congrats on your fast!

Hi Simone 24... you're doing great!

Hi Elizabeth... your smoothie sounds delish! I hear ya about drinking enough when fasting... I have to remind myself of that too. Sounds like you're off to a great start with your fast!

As for me, this was a long fast, first one this long. It's suggested to transition slowly from fasting... 1 day for every 2 days fasted. I'll be transitioning for awhile and am pleased to journey with you while you fast.

As for almond milk, I'm not sure about that with detox. I like to choose juices that are fairly light. However, it might be good. Try it and let us know what you think. I do drink hot steaming tea while fasting or eating raw. It makes such a positive difference for me. Especially, in the cold weather.

As for honey, it does have a lot of healing properties. It's sometimes encouraged to not have too high of sugar or fructose intake while fasting... for a more balanced blood sugar level. However, there are others that favor fruit juices and fasts like the master cleanse.

There are many varying views about fasting. There is fasting info on the first page of this thread if that interests you.
The wisest course for fasting... is to listen to your body and how you're feeling as you go along.

Wishing everyone a positive energized day! :D

I did well with Christmas meals. Mostly I ate lovely pears... Mmmm... I did eat some salad... my S.I.L. was so sweet to make a special green salad for me! So, munch away... I did! It feels so good to be light and energized... after all the holidays and parties this last month. This has sure changed the way I will probably do holidays. Probably not fasting for most of them, but will feel great eating light... and still having lots of fun with everything!

Have been drinking simple juices last couple of days... feels good. Still a little more transition time. Want to drink some green smoothies for a couple of weeks. Maybe that with some apples...

hey all,
i've been reading some of your posts on this threadfor inspiration. today is the second day of my water fast and visions of everything are dancing in my head. i'm noticing the foods that some of you have mentioned you've "gone off" on and i'm feeling a bit jealous.
i am - was - today i am not binging! - in the midst of a major binging cycle. when i eat, it rarely ends with a normal amount and never ends with raw. it's large quantities of some of the SADdest foods - pizza, Dunkin Donuts, pastries, ice cream.
i am fasting because i want so desparately to end this cycle and have hope that water fasting will do it.
i've heard that the first few days are the hardest in terms of hunger - or perceived hunger as it's really detox symtoms - and that after 48 hours for women, the body goes into ketosis and starts eating all of the excess tissue, thereby truly cleaning itself out. i am so excited at the thought of this phenomenon.
one more day and so thankful,
heatherjoy

I have SOOo many lemons and limes (and i'm getting more oranges and grapefruits). have any of you ever fasted on only citrus juice? would it be okay? i would also be drinking tea (ginger and lemon).

thanks for replies in advance

star1919

Hi Tinystrawberry... I've read that some people don't recommend citrus for fasting. However, others do... like Jinjee Talifero. Special Thanks to them for some of this information. They suggest good benefits with an Orange Juice Fast... I would think you could include a variety of citrus juices as you mentioned.

Basically they recommend drinking around 6 glasses of orange juice a day. You can drink it in 6 servings throughout the day or 3 times a day... whatever feels best for you. They encourage drinking the juice right away for more nutrition... rather than storing it. They also suggest brushing your teeth within 15 minutes of drinking the juices as it affects the enamel on teeth. Like some others, exercise is encouraged to help the body get rid of toxins. I personally find that stretching and walking works best for me. Light exercising... but I have read of others comfortable with more... and some who feel better not doing exercise. Do what feels best for you. Also, it is often suggested to drink a lot of water throughout the day... it helps the body flush toxins more effectively.

If you want to read more about orange juice fasting... Storm and Jinjee have a variety of ebooks... including The Orange Juice Diet. Their ebooks are helpful for those new to the raw diet and wanting recipes that don't require a lot of equipment.

Here is a link to their site:
http://www.thegardendiet.com/

I would love to hear how you liked doing a citrus fast. If you think there are some insights, info about it that could benefit other fasters...
I can add it to this thread... for fasting with citrus juices.

Wishing you a great fast... :D

On day 2 of a seven day green smoothie fast. It started very accidentally, I just woke up this morning and realized I'd had nothing but green smoothie yesterday. I also realized that yesterday was the best day I'd had in a while! I feel good this morning and totally ready to go further...If seven days is manageable I may do the month baby! I mean it is a blended food fast so detox won't be that rapid or intense.

I have not been successful at going on a fast on water beyond three days or even for three days. I am attempting to fast longer by conserving strength by remaining in bed in order to do so. I have been fasting for a few days, so far, and when I have completed it plan to return to my 80% raw food diet and eventually perhaps 100%. I have been eating mostly raw for about a month, but my son has been doing it for a year, has lost 80 pounds and looks even more handsome than ever. The severe hypoglycemia calls for some adjustments. I need support and information. I'm interested in the live food diet. I could use information on breaking my fast also.

Hi Raweyes... Welcome to this site! :D

How is your fast going? There are a variety of links about fasting... on the 1st page of this thread. For me, fasting has become easier the more I've fasted. That is great about your son too! Eating raw is such a positive choice. I am still amazed at how much more energy I have! And, how radiant my skin, hair are from eating this way. I have done both high raw and all raw. I find both beneficial.

Oh, there is information on the 1st page... of this thread about breaking a fast. Basically, it is 1 day for every two days fasted. When I've water fasted I extend that. I usually transition into juices (sometimes dilute them with water). Then, I continue to transition eating lightly with fruit. It takes eating (chewing) to 'wake up' the digestion system again. Fasting varies for each of us... pay attention to how you're feeling and do what feels best for you.

Good to have you with us... :p

Might as well join this thread. I want to do a weekend juice fast this weekend. My past fasting experiences have ALL been failures, and the reason I fail each time is willpower. I'm capable of a one-day water fast, if the day goes extremely well only. That's about it. So, I figure with at least juice I'll feel like I've at least had SOMETHING substantial. Anyways, if I don't fail this time, I'll post my progress. If I do...well, then maybe I'll try this another time. So frustrating though. Especially when I pretty much have to do it in secret because the automatic belief of everyone around me is that I must be anorexic if I'm not eating...heck, they already think that some days...lol.

star1919
03-16-2007, 08:52 AM
Hi Mershwista... I hear you about fasting. I used to struggle with it, but the more I've done it the easier it has become. I love weekend fasting. One of the things I enjoy is treating it like a spa or special time for me. Little things... scented baths, nature walks, creative projects... other things I will enjoy. Then, it doesn't feel like doing without... and instead is a nurtured and fun time.

Wishing you a positive, energized day... :D

Thank you, star1919. So far, I'm more than halfway through the dinner and successfully avoided failing at this even though a friend asked me to lunch today. I did go with, but I brought along my little empty almond butter jar filled with cranberry juice. I didn't even drink all of it.

This evening will be the test, though...there's a recital I'm going to, and my friend, who's hosting it, will be having a reception with food...probably a nice fruit and veggie tray I'll have to ignore, too.

Anyways, thanks for the encouragement.

Mershwista... hope your evening went well... and that you had fun whatever choices you made. :p

As for me, I did water fasting today. Not planned... just ended up choosing it all day. I may water fast the weekend. Soon, I'm planning to do an extended juice fast. Maybe some green smoothies towards the end. If I go for quite awhile, I'll check in from time to time with my progress.

So many great fasts going on... fun to read about.

What a wonderful and amazingly long thread on fasting! Love it!

I'm in the midst of a 92 day juice feast. I'm currently on day 11 and all is well now that I have this rather large green juice in my hand. I went the day on sugery fruit juices and it made life so difficult. I do much better on green juices.

Wishing everyone continued success on your fast!!:p

Gwena... what an amazing journey you're on! Loved your youtube video and blog. You've inspired me to start a juice fast on the 5th with mostly green juices. Bright congrats on 11 days and a great start... to an incredible fast!

Will be cheering you on... Go Gwena! Go Chicago! Go Gwena! :D

THANKS so much Star1919!!! I totally appreciate your encouragement!!! I'm so glad you're starting your own green juice feast.

That's the goal of the video, to inspire others to do this too. Another piece of encouragment . . . you'll feel awesome for doing it! I can't even explain how good I feel on this juice feast. I wish everone would try it.

I'll be cheering you on in the days to come as well.

Here's to vibrant health!:D
