I've been wanting to give up coffee for awhile now, and since this morning I'm totally out of coffee, I've decided this is the day. I've been drinking coffee every morning for 20 years, so I'm not sure what I'm in for, but I'm guessing a pounding headache. Wish me luck - I think this is gonna hurt. :(

My best advice would be to drink lots...and LOTS of water....hang in there! I'll be praying for you. I suffer from caffeine addiction too, and giving it up cold turkey is painful. Herbal tea helps too!!

Oh I agree. Drink insane amounts of water. Flush that gunk out. It will pass. Do not give in. Coffee is evil and so very harmful for your body! Plus once you've detoxed from it? You'll be amazed as to how you ever "needed" it.
Good for you! You can do this!!!

Just wanted to offer an alternative and that is having 1 cup of green tea a day for a week, slowly lowering the caffeine intake. This is what worked for me and I never got a headache. Good luck!

You may or may not get a rotten headache. If so, it might last a couple days. When I quit caffeine (I was drinking 2-3 liters of pop a day) I slept a LOT for two weeks. My body was just re-adjusting and it was not fun at first because no matter how much I slept, I was always completely exhausted. Once my body did finally readjust, I felt better than ever. A normal amount of energy, not frazzled, etc. I had been dealing with some pretty serious panic attacks and agoraphobia, and quitting caffeine was one of the major things that helped me to get past that. I didn't even realize I was feeling the effects of the caffeine all along, but I definitely was. The detox might not be loads of fun, but it's tolerable and it will pass. Water would probably be good lol
You can do it. Good luck.

Good for you GG!
I would say as long as your in for the long haul, put up with the headache, drink lots of water and don't substitute tea or anything else that may cause another addiction.
When I came off of coffee I had severe flu symptoms and ended up having to come off slowly as I couldnt function to care for my family. I had severe headaches and body aches, especially my upper back and chest. It hurt so bad to breathe that I almost went to the emergency room. It took me a couple of weeks to totally quit. Something that makes you detox that hard must really be horrible for you!! Definately drinks tons of water!! Good luck!!

Good for all of you. I am on day three of no caffeine and it is great. I did have a slight headache (usually get migraines when leaving caffeine) and a sore neck. Yesterday I found that I was exceptionally thirsty, so I got into the caffeine free herbal teas and drank 2 large pots plus a lot of water. Good luck to all of you, I know how hard it can be.

Hey, I'm been reading this thread, and I was just wondering, from a raw standpoint, what is wrong with tea? It seems like green teas have so many antioxidants that I don't really understand why all teas are generally categorized as bad by raw foodists.
Thanks

I don't think they are, Vann. I've seen lots of people on here talk about drinking tea. They just don't drink it hot. I think they put it in the dehydrator, or let it get to room temprature or something.

I think the answer will depend on who you ask. Technically, in a nutshell, its cooked. Tea isn't raw. I do drink tea though, especially this time of year. Its an individual thing though. If you want to be pure, 100% raw, then tea..uh...wouldn't be your cup of tea. I'm not quite 100%, I will have some things that aren't raw and tea is one of them. Maybe someday I'll make it to 100%.
