Hope this is posted in the right area!
I read that there are preferred brands, but have been unable to find a few and/or have been way out of my price range. So was wondering what was preferred and what are some basics that are always on hand in your day to day raw life?
Thanks and again sorry if this is in the wrong area!

Brands of what? I go to the store and buy a head of lettuce, a leek, some oranges, etc. Usually they don't have brands. Sometimes the fruits have stickers, but I don't much care what the name of the farm is.

I like Nutiva coconut oil. Am not brand specific on olive oil. And what I buy may in fact not be raw but I use so little olive oil any more, it doesn't really matter to me. I am not one of those sticklers who has to be certain of being 100%.
For bars and crackers I buy the Go Raw brand.
Much of what I buy is from Tru Health (a local health food store). They have the freshest nuts, seeds and dried fruits. They keep them in the freezer and package them as needed. I don't know what brand they are since they bear their own label.
Most of what I eat though is just fresh produce. It doesn't necessarily have a brand name on it and I'm not very brand specific on that. I do try to buy organic but if I can't find what I want in organic or it isn't fresh, then I might buy the regular kind. For some reason I've had trouble getting fresh bell peppers that are organic and I know they are one thing that should be organic. So next year I plan to plant a lot more peppers.

i also don't buy branded things, the reason is they are not freely available where i am. also i think its nice if you can to make your own things.
i buy just fruit and veg and try and get as much organic as i am able.
have you checked Alissa's online shop out? I know she has a good range of things to buy eg supplements, coconut butter, raw crunch bars etc... i have not myself for the simple reason i am not in the US, but if i was i definately would be buying things :)
best wishes

When I first saw this I was like Pierre: Brands of what? I rarely purchase anything packaged yet, once I started thinking about it there are a few things such as agave, salt, Nama Shoyu (only one I know of) and ummm, that's about it. As far as anything else like carob, whenever I can find it raw; seaweeds, whenever I can find dulse....
Mostly my food comes from local farmers' markets and when what I want there is not available, Whole Foods, Trader Joe's, Wild Oats... but that's not often.

I am in the transition period so I was thinking along the lines of soy sauce, almond milk (which I cannot find!), and cheese. I read that wine was okay in the sense of alcohol..is that right? Today is my first day of raw and I'm excited! So thanks for all the help!

The almond milk I used to buy, was not raw, but it was called Almond Breeze. I had other brands but did not like them much. My kids would drink the chocolate one, as I would, a little too much so I stopped buying it. I now make it, not all the time, but when I need a nut milk.
But if you want to make your own, just use 1/2 - 1 cup almonds or cashews (or a combination) blended well with a few cups of water, and strain. You can add honey, agave nectar, vanilla, cinnamon etc. if you want to flavor it, however you aren't going to be drinking it straight up, it's not necessary.

For soy sauce, there is Nama Shoyu. "Nama" means "raw".
