hi everyone. i just got the best call today... the dehydrator just arrived in the mail. how horrible is it that i want to think up an excuse to leave work early just so i can go home and play with it?!?!?!?! LOL.
things im planning on making today (all recipes i've found on the board - THANK YOU!!!!):
jalapeno poppers
onion bread
corn chips
curry almonds
Eeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I feel like a kid in a candy store. I <3 being raw.
Question: the onion bread... do the onions get soft once the whole thing is done? i've always had a problem eating raw onions cause they were just TOO strong. any suggestions? should i soak them in something first to try to mellow them out? if so, what?
thank u all, you're all a serious inspiration!
love love love,

I only like SWEET onions.....Yes, I think they are softer...I never noticed an onion "crunch" when eating the bread! Congrats to you, I love getting new stuff!

My mom can't normally eat onions either cooked or raw. They really bother her and almost immediately. She has had this bread twice with no problems whatever. In fact none of the people who tried it even thought it tasted of onion. I did. But I'm an onion lover and if there's a way to put onions in something, I'll do it. I even have a three bin unit for my onions. It's always filled with yellow, white and purple ones. There's a basket on top that has shallots in it and I have green onions in the fridge.

oh you are making me jealous. i haven't yet got a dehydrator. i have decided to wait until after the holidays hoping that the price will have gone down a little.
please let us know how you find it, congratulations on the new job too :)

I would definately soak the onions in cold brine (salt water) and rinse several times, possibly re-soaking. The onions are very strong, even the sweet onions.
