I am so excited -- I am taking a train (from MT) to Chicago this Thanksgiving to spend with my son (19) as his first Thanksgiving away from home in Navy boot camp. My daughter is also taking a train from TX and meeting us there. We are so excited. And my brother (from Iowa) is planning on meeting us for dinner.
So I need some tips on where would be a good place to eat -- raw and sad.
And please make it easy to find -- I'm not too excited about driving in Chicago.
Thank you, thank you, thank you!
Oh, also ideas about what to pack for me to eat on the train (coming and going) would be appreciated.

Greetings Chi-town visitors!!
The best place for a mix would be Chicago Diner on 3411 N Halsted. Whatever you do check out the Mango Cheese Cake. You, your son and daughter will Love it!!
There is also Karyn's (1901 N Halsted) and Cousin's (3038 W Irving Park Road). Both are raw.
And of course you can always Call Little Ole Me!! (http://www.rawteacher.com/Tombi) I am doing a holiday meal and would be glad to help ya out!

I second the Chicago Diner!!!! While primarily a cooked vegan restaurant, the owners have recently been learning more and more about raw, and are including some OUTSTANDING raw selections daily. If they've got the nachos, you've GOTTA try those! Oh, and they make this GREEN soup that will put you through the roof! Just ask Jul, HydroNewbie, and a few others on this board that may have had it. And... the owners are really into helping the raw community. Super-great people. Their positive attitude flows through their restaurant, which I don't experience to the same degree at other raw restaurants.
Another thing you can check on is if there's anything going on with raw meetup groups. I know an associate of mine will be speaking at a raw food thanksgiving dinner/dance on Nov 12 http://rawfood.meetup.com/222/
And yes, Ntombi is in Chicago... a wonderful person to hang out with ;)

Oh, how cool, you answered! I'll get to Chicago on the 23rd and spend the day with son and maybe brother. Then next day daughter and I are free to play. We are not really interested in shopping -- not on the busiest shopping day of the year, no thank you! Any suggestions? And I'd love to meet you!
Thanks for the response and recommendations. I will print this and take it with me -- after I check map-quest to find directions.
