View Full Version : Raw and 1 Tooth?

Hi all: My question is how to go raw when I only have one tooth? Explanation in Welcome forum. Okay I can eat Salads anything soft, but how do I get my protein if I can not eat nuts, also how much protein do you need a day? When I have tried to eat nuts (almonds) and seeds I usually choke on them. I don't know much about protein except for meat, what other substitutes other than almonds can I use for protein? I do have a regular Hamilton Beach food processor, and a regular mixer, plus a solar star juicer. But really not sure how to prepare my food, so I don't have a problem choking. Also I dislike mashing everything because it all taste like baby food. Yuck. Any help or suggestion about protein or any other ways how to prepare food would be appreciated. I love beets, but can't eat them unless there cooked. Thanks Mysticalwoman

Don't worry about protein! You can get all the protein you need from fruits and tender greens. You can make fruit smoothies with greens in them in a blender. If you really want to have nuts, you can always make nut mylks. Blend up soaked nuts with dates and water and then strain. But you really don't NEED nuts for protein or anything else. Fruits and tender veggies (lettuces) have plenty of protein.

Green smoothies, green smoothies, green smoothies.
IF you feel the need to have nuts, add them to the fluid in the smoothie, blend then add the rest.

My grandmother has lived for years without teeth (she had dentures, but didn't like the feel of them) and she eats a lot of things.
I'd say that I agree with Chilove and Revvell...soft fruits such as mango, papaya, avocado, bananas, etc. along with green smoothies, nut/seed pate's, nut/seed milks and/or cheezes, nuts/seeds added to your smoothies, apple sauce or other pureed fruits, raw soups and fruit or fruit and nut puddings, cashew/banana ice cream...you got a lot of variety there and ALL will give you sufficient amounts of protein!

Thank you Chilove,Revvell and Rawkinlocs. Okay this might be a dump question but what are green smoothies? I know of fruit smoothies bananas, strawberries with rice milk. And what goes in a green smoothie, what type of veggies and what type of milk? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Mysticalwoman

Greensmoothies are basically fruit smoothies with greens blended in! When starting out, the fruit to green ratio can be higher in favor of fruit and as you get used to it, you can add more greens to it. The fruit makes for a palettable way to get your greens in and the blending of the greens makes it easier for the body to assimilate them.
You don't have to use any type of milk at all...rice milk (especially if the store-bought kind) is not raw...but you can make nut milk...but in my smoothies I generally just add my fruit, greens and a little water or freshly squeezed orange juice.

And here is MY favorite recipe for nut milk:
1 c. almonds that have been soaked/germinated 12 hours or overnight (or other nut - they all render a different flavor...Brazil nuts give a hint of a "coffee" flavor! Cashew/Almond - 1/2 c. almonds and 1/2 c. cashews - makes a nice combination and is my personal favorite)
2-3 c. purified water (the less water, the thicker the drink)
¼-1/2 tsp. vanilla
1/8-1/4 tsp. sea salt
raw agave nectar or raw honey to taste
Blend all ingredients in blender until well blended. Strain through a nut milk bag (or you can go to Home Depot or other hardware store and ask for nylon paint strainer bags). Save the pulp and freeze or dehydrate for adding to cookie, grawnola or cracker recipes or use as an exfoliating facial/body scrub! Store the nut milk in an airtight jar in the refrigerator for 2-4 days. Drink, enjoy with desserts, granola or use in recipes!

no milk unless you want to make a nut milk. There are lots of green smoothies. You can make them however you want too!
One of my favorites is:
2 bunches of kale
You can mix it up however you want, but just include your dark leafy greens.
Greens smoothies are soooooo good. I have them for lunch and dinner now most of the time.

Thanks Rawkinlocs and Lay-Lay. I will try your recipe Lay-Lay it sounds very tasty. And Rawkinlocs thanks for the ratio part that I need help with. One more question is Stevia consider a raw sweeter or is honey better? Thanks

Stevia is acceptable (I believe) but I heard from some it can have a bitter aftertaste. Other acceptable sweeteners are RAW honey (if you are not vegan but are vegetarian), RAW agave nectar (comes from the leaves of a cactus plant, is low glycemic and is more neutral in taste than honey), dates and other dried fruit (depending on the recipe, etc.)

Welcome Mysticalwoman and best wishes. You might also find you like some softer "burgers" "crab cakes", etc, made with pureed nuts and veggies in the food processor, if you don't want to feel like everything's a blended food. There's also some amazing raw pies, the filling is quite easy to eat, and maybe even some of the softer crusts too.
Very helpful posts from Rawkinlocs especially. Just a fan note to Rawkinlocs for all she adds here!
Hey, if you love beets, try to juice beet-carrot-apple with a little fresh ginger. One of my favorite fall juices! Beet juice is also awesome by itself, the taste goes beyond beets, sometimes can taste almost like cherry juice or something to that effect.
If you cant eat almonds, why not have almond butter?
