I'm doing her recipe for hummus tonight and I don't have any tahinni. Do you think it will make a huge difference without this (I think it calls for 1/2 cup or something)? Does anyone know of a good substitute or does anyone have a hummus recipe that doesn't require the tahinni. I don't know, I am thinking that this is one of the key staples to making the dish taste like hummus in the first place.

LavendarJ, do you have any sesame seeds?
There have been times I didn't have tahini for certain recipes and would just use sesame seeds ground up in a coffee grinder (since that's what tahini is anyway...sesame seed butter) and it'd be fine.
Otherwise, I'm not sure as I'm not the hummus connoisoir, so I don't know of any other viable substitution. I have made this before though and it was good...again, since I wasn't all that much of a cooked hummus eater, I wasn't sure what it was supposed to taste like in terms of the cooked version...but it was good and my husband said it was too. Are you making the zucchini one? That's the one I made.

I know you found your solution, but for anyone else out there you could try a bit of apple cider vinegar.
