View Full Version : Mother WIT vs. RAW SENSE

I'm having a dilemma which I'm sure I'll work thru, just wanted to share with my cyber family.

Due to years of conditioning my mother wit wants me to prepare warm foods for my family during the winter months, just because

RAW sense dictates otherwise.

It's like I'm on auto pilot and the temparature dips so I'm ready to make oatmeal and grits. Even though my little ones have been thriving just fine on room temp and fridge chilled fruits for breakfast.

Anyone else having this foolish battle with self???

Yes, that is why I bought that huge piece of ginger that I haven't figured out how to use yet. At least I learned how to peel the skin off with a spoon on here!

Me too! I just want baked/sweet potatoes every night! I try to replicate it in a raw dish but it's not the same. You can make "applesauce" or other blended meals and warm them in your dehydrator. According to Gabriel Cousins start the dehydrator at 145 degrees for 2 hours and then lower it to 115. It prevents fermentation but does not "cook" the food. I've done it successfully with applesauce and it was "warm" and good......I have "mashed cauliflower" in as we speak, for my dinner....will let you know how close it is to mashed potatoes later ;) Good luck! You can make blended soups and do the same I suppose???? Good luck! ;)

Dehydrator on my wish list.

I have warmed my pampered chef stone to 150 degress before and then set cold dishes on there just to speed up the warming to room temp. process without using my microwave.

We bypassed oatmeal this morning an opted for bananas and apple juice.

The lunch salad was great for all, but I did cave and give the little ones crackers.

I don't beat myself up but I do want to do better for them and myself.

I have so much graitude for my former home sitter who provide them with a 100% vegan diet for their first few years of life. I called and thanked her again plus shared the news of my liberation.

She encouraged me to keep giving them the best of everything cause they are worth it and as a parent/steward I've gotta do it!

Hmmmm :)

And I will

My mom used to insist on us eating oatmeal on cold days to "warm us up inside". I couldn't follow the logic since as kids, we hated to eat any food that was truly hot and we'd pretty much let it cool to room temp. before we even took a bite of it. And since I didn't like the stuff, I mainly just played with it. I don't recall ever having grits although my mom did make a cornmeal mush into hush puppies a time or two. I just loved that name and would beg for the stuff, only to dislike it after she made it.

As an adult, I've rarely eaten cereal. Yes, I went through periods of time when I'd be on some sort of diet and then I would eat it, but I wouldn't really like it. I don't miss cereal at all.

You can make raw oatmeal, Rawkinlocs uses an oat flaker, then she soaks the oats and adds good fruits etc, you could warm this in a bowl of warm water, or in a double boiler, with warmish water,

I make warmed veggie soups all the time, I warm them to finger warm, I also add cayenne and chilis, and I use ginger, and onion and garlic to make things taste more warm

hot cocoa,
is almond milk carob or cacao powder
a dash of cayenne
and cinnamon
and agave'
then warmed to finger warm, it is delicious,

mmmmmmmmmm

hmmm, i'm just about to ramp up to try the raw diet, and i have a feeling winter is the worst time to do this! lol!

anyway, we're still ramping up... not sure when we'll actually take the leap, but i'll need to gather some recipes before doing it... otherwise, i'll get frustrated and quit before giving it a real try.

It's 23 degrees outside and my 4 yr old requested a carrot straight out the fridge for breakfast. LAst night both toddlers ate a 1/2 a cuccumber each ( @5inches) for a snack.

I love how little ones instinctively eat what they need;) !

Just wanted to throw in my two cents... I do daycare, and have noticed that when I put a plate of food in front of a child, they will eat the cold, fresh produce first. Even in the winter, even when there is warm chicken nuggets on the plate. I have seen children as young as 18 months wolf down a salad, and ask for more. We are starting to serve more and more raw fruits and veggies to the children because of this.

I think we are born with an ability to eat what is best for us, but marketing and convenience food corrupt this ability as we age. I think your wanting to serve the children warm food is just leftover programming you received earlier in your life. It sure took me along time to get over the brainwashing we all received about milk.

Can you keep the fruit out at room temp or put it in a sunny window?

I used to place all my fruit in the fridge but I now prefer it at room temp.

Sometimes I take cantaloupes too far though - I need to put them in the fridge if they are ripe and we don't plan to eat them for a while.

i agree searose , the marketing and brainwashing done upon this society by the tv is manipulating us into eating in a very wrongful manner . a manner which is making us a weak and sickly society . thusly the people whom control the tv must be aleviated of that power . they have proven to be unworthy of that power .

Amen Searose and michigan roman! Amen! I haven't even bothered to tell either of our parents. Our children will be 100% after we move in April. Listen to Raw Sense. Your kids are choosing what they know is right. Follow their lead if you have to! LOL!
