Hi Everyone,

I'm very new to the raw vegan lifestyle. A couple of weeks ago I stumbled on Dr. Graham's foodnsport.com website and after reading the information there I decided to give it a try.

I started by going to the raw gourmet restaurants in my area, luckily we have quite a few that are within driving distance. So far most things that I've tasted at the restaurants has ranged from okay to great, which was a great surprise to me as I am not a salad person and get bored with them quite easily so knowing that there's more to raw than salads was a big boost for me. :D
but eating at the restaurants is EXPENSIVE :eek:

So, I was completely raw for two whole days this week. I'm sure I would not have reverted to my old eating habits so soon had I stocked up on enough raw food for the week, but since this is my first time I really didn't know how to shop when I went to the Farmer's Market for the first time last week. :confused:

I would love to hear from anyone out there with suggestions on how make a more successful transition to this lifestyle. How do you avoid the constant temptations of cooked junk? Previous to this journey I was an omnivore and I love to eat, so the smell of cooked food really triggers something for me. Will that ever go away?

Anyway, I'm happy to be on this journey to better health and even happier that I found this forum for support.

I've been on and off raw for 5 years, finally now on raw for 7 months, with a few slip ups, it is rawsome.

this is what I suggest, get Alissa's book and DVD, that is very important, you will have access to fantastically great recipes, and testimonies, etc.

post and read on this forum, and
go to the grocery store, buy at least two of each kind of fruit and veggie that you like, take them home, eat them and repeat,

it is that easy, when you get the DVD and the book, watch the DVD and read the book and do what Alissa says, she really knows her stuff, and read the recipe section of this forum, you will learn so much cool stuff.

Yes it takes a long time for some but they keep promising me that it will happen - we will get to where we do not crave what we smell in the lunchroom at work!

Some people start counting over right away as soon as they have a slip. Others of us have learned terms like "high raw" (means not 100%) and "transitioning" (we still slip up alot - some planned some not).

After awhile you will find that when you have a slip it will actually make you feel poorly. If nothing else it will be too heavy on your stomach.

Some people jump in and go 100% right away. I admire them.

Some people need to recreate their SAD favorites in RAW form. Others say that after a few years you will grow away from this practice.

One day at a time, one meal at a time. The thing about a raw lifestyle is that it evolves. When I first began I had no intention of becoming 100% raw. I was "raw till dinner" as Natalia Rose recommends in her book "The Raw Food Detox Diet" and eventually just stopped cooking my dinners too...I LOVE the simplicity of raw foods. I also like the 80-10-10 philosophy of Dr. Graham....As a matter of fact I am gearing up to do a "November Exercise Challenge" on this forum and one of my goals is to get back to 8-1-1 eating. Feel free to join our thread. And, about cravings, the higher raw you are the less you have the cravings....at least that's how I have felt....Another suggestion may be that you are not eating enough? which sounded odd to me too when I first transitioned but it may be worth setting up a food journal on nutridiary.com or fitday.com both are great (FREE) programs!!! Happy to have you here. I am sure eating at a RAW Restauraunt is expensive but you can do it yourself. RAW can be Simple or Work, I prefer to keep it simple and make something difficult every now and then.

You can eat GOOD simple without eating salads all it takes is planning. You have recieved wonderful information, so stay tuned to this Forum and make it work for you to keep you RAW.
