I was wondering... how long does slippery elm take to work. I have been reading it is very good for constipation... and I am having issues after eating way too many nuts after a bout of fasting.. Also, how much should you take?

Well the people I learned of it from said that you can never hurt yourself by doing too much of this because it is so gentle. (Too much of anything is a bad thing but this stuff is gentle)

1 cup hot water and 1 tsp to 1 tbsp slippery elm
add honey and or cinnamon if you can't handle the flavor (also very mild)

The texture gets very mucousy and some people just can't handle that so if you are one of those just do a tsp.

If you do a cup or 2 (if only 1 teaspoon) tonight before bed you should move first thing in the morning unless you are in a more severe situation. Even then it should not be longer than 3 days for someone with a bigger problem. (At this point if you have done slippery elm regularly and still have no result I would recommend seeing a professional.)

Recently my husband was backed up after a bout in the hospital with an anal abcess. He needed those bowels to move and with no stress on him because of the open wound. He couldn't go get the drugstore chemicals that the doctors recommend so I finally got him on the slippery elm. He is a convert now. This stuff is the best! It helps you move better than anything I know of and has none of the bad side effects of anything else I have tried!

luckitri-

THanks for the info....it must be a coincidence that I bumped into my slippery elm. It was tucked in a bag from a recent trip. Had no idea that slippery elm was good for constipation. I myself had to many nuts last night too. LOL...and need some help. Looks like I will be trying that tonight!

Thanks! :p
