Whenever I make smoothies in my K-tec blender, I also grind up the flax seeds in a coffee grinder before I add it to the blender. Does anyone else who has a K-tec ever just add the flax straight to the blender? If so, does it actually grind it up well? It would just eliminate an extra step if I didn't have to grind it up in the coffee grinder first.

I don't own a K-Tec, but once in one of my classes someone brought one for us to use and she did grind up dry flax in there...did a really good job too!

I use my Vitamix to grind it and it works well also.

I wonder if it would still grind up with all of the other ingredients and liquid added?

It might...but I'm not sure.

But if it were me, I'd just start out in a dry blender with dry seeds and grind those first and then add the other ingredients right on top of the ground seeds and blend the smoothie from there.

Well, my blender does not grind it completely with water in, haven't tried dried though..

Since my beautiful dobe girl needs it and we do use it in recipes, I regularly find myself grinding up 1-2 cups of flax in the K-Tec. It's done in about 5 seconds.

I would take Rawk's suggestion and blend up a cup or so prior to making your green smoothie, and refrigerate the part you will not be using. No need to get the coffee grinder out.

I know I have put the seeds in my smoothies whole but I don't remember the result. (Sorry)

Could u grind some in the K-tec, then add the rest of your ingredients? That's the way I do it with my regular ol' blender:)

Hi All,

I decided just to try it myself. I made a smoothie in my K-tec of 2 T flax seeds, 2 T sunflower seeds, 1.5 c water and 1 c strawberries. I put everything in the blender at once and the blender did a GREAT job of grinding the flax seeds. It ground them up just as well as the coffee grinder. YEAH!!!!! :) I love my K-tec :D
