Hello Everyone,
I have been without a PC for the past two months and have missed you all terribly. I hadnt realised just how much of a support all of you are!
Well, I went to southern California and my one "must do" was to go to Juliano's Raw restaurant as his was the first raw book I bought. . .about six years before i knew anything about raw!
Let me tell you it was an amazing and awful experience. Awful in that both kids had a complete and total meltdown just as the food arrived - the food did take a loooong time to arrive! My husband saved the day; he scooped up both kids and went and waited in the car while I sat with all NINE items we ordered!!!!!!!!!!!! He's a real keeper :p
And amazing for so many reasons. As we walked in Juliano was seated at the bar! My daughter was thrilled to meet the guy whose cookie she loves. They had a nice little chat :)
The restaurant has no indoor seating - only in Californina! We were seated at a table next to Lisa Bonet (The Cosby Show) and surrounded by lush tropical plants.
This is one of those times when you really do just want to order everything on the menu. Well my wallet wouldnt allow for that so I took pictures of each page of the menu and proceeded to order NINE items. I did not get picture of all nine but I have included some.
I would love to post the amazing menu pictures but it was 21 pages!!!! So very inspiring.
We had:
BLOOD
KREAMY ELECTROLYTE LEMONADE - words cannot describe
APPLE TORTALLINI - melted in your mouth
BREAKFAST CEREAL - pure bliss
AB & J - amazing
THIN CRUST DECADANT PIZZA
GREEN GODESS SALAD
CURRY PASTA
THAI COCONUT SOUP
STRAWBERRY CHEESECAKE

I would but in order to read it I would need to to have them full page size!
I am however happy to send the pictures to anyone who asks! The menu is just unbelievable, with great descriptions!!! He notes that his full menu is on his site - it is not, only about a third.
OK, twist my arm I will post two pages if I can get them readable. . .
RP, if they are too big please delete :o
Cheers,
Erin

The one on the bottom LEFT is the Nut butter & jam but is was SOOOO much more. I honestly couldnt figure out what was in it. it was so moorish. I think, creamed dates crushed cocoa nibs (crunch) banana, nut butter crushed berries etc. The one on the bottom RIGHT is the Pizza.
Yes I will send what I have, food & menu pics. I will have my husband put it into a zip file as it would be too big other wise.
To make it easier for me would you send me a mail with "Juliano's Pictures" in the subject line then I can just reply. I will have him do it tonight.

Oh my Goddess, how fantastically wonderful, but those prices, YIKES!!!
I always get a small salad when I go out, which is $2.99, or if I'm really being lavish, I get a fruit plate, which is $4.50, WOW,
and I thought I was extravagant, but then again, it IS Juliano's and it IS in California, and it IS raw, and he IS famous, and it IS fabulous food, so I suppose it could be justified, but I don't know how I could EVER spend that much on food, it just isn't in my nature.
LOL, I am so frugal, I just walk outside and pick berries, LOL

LOL RP.....I was looking at the prices thinking....the pizza...is that a LARGE pizza...and then I thought...probably not. ;) I would have to buy at least 1 dish...just to say I'd eaten there. There are NO RAW restaurants here :( I would do business there regularly...hum...just to be able to sit and let someone SERVE me the food I love.

Hey RP,
Actually that was the most pricy page, he actually had the menu set up from cheapest to most $$ so there were very resonable dishes served or else there was NO WAY we could have ordered so much!
However saying that I would trade places with you and your green thumb any day! To just walk out the door and there is your food. . . . that is was life is about!
Did you want me to send you the zip file?
Cheers,

Hi Sharon, sorry,my kiwis are out of season, and banana and pineapple just don't grow here, or at least not without a greenhouse, I did have a banana tree for many years in my home, it got really big, LOL
but all of those colder type things are still growing, it is so warm here still, in the 60's it did get pretty cold the other night, into the low 40's LOL
but usually by late October, it's pretty cold and it just isn't now, I'm still wearing summer dresses without a coat during the day. LOL
maybe I SHOULD try growing those things. LOL

RP - I was referring to Juliano's. :) Did you see all the luscious fruits he refuses to offer?

Sharon -- Juliano has recently eliminated grains and some sugary fruits and veggies (bananas, beets, carrots, etc.) from his diet and culinary repertoire. I read his interview last week from an online source. Now I'm kicking myself for not bookmarking it. His new cookbook will probably come out pretty soon. All the recipes in this new cookbook will not call for any of the items mentioned above. I can't wait to see his new book. I like his last RAW cookbook, although the recipes are pretty complicated. I hope this new one is more user friendly.

They tasted baked! They were filled with a pecan cinnimon butter. . . Yumm, not too sweet, just right! I read somewhere he marinates the apple in coconut oil with spices added before dehydrating.
Have a look at the picture of the salad, there is one perched at 7 o'clock on the edge of the plate.
As with most of the items the blending of flavours was amazing but were impossible to fiqure out unless you looked at the menu description.

~*~*~*I know how you feel. I'm in Seattle and there isnt much in the way of raw restaurant here either.
Yes I was really pleased to meet him and it was lovely of him to speak to my young daugter one to one.
I do remember that one of the flats we had in London had this raw restaurant near it. At the time I thought it was just quirky - I was not raw then, nor had I heard of it.
It was down a little street just across from the Maida Vale tube stop off of Maida Vale(W9). Perhaps you could do a search!
I just did a search and come up with this interesting article that is to list list Londons only raw food eatery. I don have time to read the whole thing but it looks good!
http://enjoyment.independent.co.uk/food_and_drink/features/article296978.ece
Here is a bit from the article:
The Little Earth Café in Primrose Hill is London's only raw-food eatery. While America has plenty of raw restaurants, buoyed by references in Sex and the City, Britain is lagging behind. Well known to the local A-list contingent, who drop by for juice or to order a takeaway, the café smells faintly of banana and sweet incense. Guests take their shoes off on entering, yoga poses are optional, everyone exudes health.

I have enjoyed the photos of Julianos plates as art but they do not inspire my palate - I mean get the juices going - especially when I see the flowers - I have no idea what flowers I could eat! Of course the food must be delicious and it is wonderful to have a restaurant so that you can have all that variety of food!

Oh that is okay! It does sound like it was about you since it was just after your post.
I don't get it still though. Since he does offer some man-made products like the processed oils and things. Yet no fruit?
But it's his journey. Don't know if I'd ever go there, heaven forbid I'd ask for a fruit plate and get refused. But it does look like an interesting place to go - I used to live fairly close to the area.
EPPP - I wonder what your neighbor Lisa Bonet thought when you whipped out your camera to take a picture of - YOUR FOOD. Either she thought "I'm off the hook" or her ego took a nose dive.

Ya know, I really felt bad for her. The words that come to mind when I think about her there is "reclusive & hermit". She was very withdrawn, gaunt and unwell looking. My heart just went out to her. :(
As far as the food. I agree with you on the arty pictures but the tastes were outstanding!
