Does anyone else have a problem staying raw when its so cold out? I went to 2 football games over the weekend, came home freezing and hungry. So, what did I do? Ate cooked just to eat something warm. Anyone have any tips to help me out (and anyone else with this problem)? I don't do cold weather/winter very well....maybe I should move to Florida.

Carrot ginger soup warmed to the touch with some raw crackers and maybe some raw dips or cheeses. Yum!
Staying raw when it's cold is definitely challenging. I know this might not be the "purist" point of view, but I am allowing myself herbal tea during the colder weather. My rationale is simple: better to plan on herbal tea, than not have a plan and grab some cooked food. Maybe by next year I will have enough "raw time" under my belt to not feel the need...but this year, herbal tea it is. :)

I'm with ya on this one. I had a cup of tea this morning after I got to work. Also had 2 bananas but NO COOKED!! If tea will keep me from eating cooked, then I think its worth it.

Yes, I live in cold country too. I think that adding hot spices to anything helps. (Like Cayenne Pepper) Also, I make water room temperature and add things like lime juice to them. Or how about something fresh out of the dehydrator! After being raw for a while...anything room temperature seems warm to me! :p Oh...and there are recipes like Alissa's Ravioli...that you let set for a few hours on the counter. It's not going to be cold like melon from the fridge and may help to give you that satisfied feeling. ;)

Funny you should mention a dehydrator and Alissa's book...they both should be arrriving at my house this week! I know the dehydrator will help a lot. I'll have to check out the ravioli!

yes. relocate to FL. I will meet you there! :D
It's actually very cold now where I am in MD. What's helped me is to not be so busy & keep myself warm. I find that when I do a lot of things & esp. working out, I tend to get very, very, very hungry & hungry for the wrong things. That's my experience. :o

I'm always freezing and I live in Florida. What I try to do with most foods is let them sit out for a bit so they're not as cold or not cold at all by the time I eat them. Don't know what I would do in an even colder environment.

I really don't get warm in a cold environment. The cold seeps into my skin and stays there. On top of that, I can't stand wearing layers or bulky clothes. Extremely uncomfortable. Don't know how I got through my childhood. Oh yeah, I was sick all the time.

Luckily I don't have the problem of getting cold (I always think it's too warm unless I'm sick, and I haven't been sick in 3 years), but it's hard to find any appetizing produce in Cleveland these days. Just means I either eat less or spend more money...or both. It's not the ideal situation, but neither, then is the weather. :(

It's hit freezing the past few days. If it gets any colder I'm going to go nuts - maybe pecans or walnuts ;)
I have more temperature tolerance than most people, and raw seems to be improving it. I still wear shorts.

I have warm herbal tea to warm myself up, even living in the Seattle area I seem to react more strongly to the cold each year and it really doesn't usually get very cold here. I dress in layers and am always teased that I have at least 4 layers of clothing on each day! Ha! So if I do warm up I can take a layer or two off.
It is in the 50's today, not that cold at all and I am inside with the heat on and still have on 3 layers. Warm heart, cold fingers and toes!

Since everyone is cold. I invite everyone to my house for dinner. It was 85 degrees here yesterday and the ocean had a wonderful calming sound. I wear shorts/t-shirts/flip-flops all year long.
We are expecting 78 today....
I am blessed to live here. But this wasn't always the case. I am originally from Manhattan, NY. I am going to visit my brother in PA in December. The bad part is he wants me to help him at work. He owns a construction company and works out side all the time. The temp should be between 10-30 degress by then.
Thank you for all the advice I have been reading. It will help with my vacation.

I second adding spices into your diet. They are warming for the body. Cayenne pepper, Ginger, Cinnamon, Cardomom, chiles. I have been adding some ginger to my smoothies and herb teas, Cayenne pepper to soups.

Gilmore Girl! Ha! I was always sick in the cold as a child also! And here in AZ some of us go to work early in the dark and our bones get chilled. We are still wearing our layers of clothing trying to get the chill off our bones when our later shift co-workers come in looking at us like we are nuts because they're in t-shirts in the 80 degrees and we still are frozen!

I don't recommend spices, salt, or warming anything. Eat things at room temperature so that your body can adjust. The more cold/hot things you eat, the more it throws off your body temperature and makes it diffucult to stabilize. I used to get freezing all of the time until I just kept eating things that were at room temp. I comment about this in another thread Dreamwaltz started. Look there if you can.
