View Full Version : How to lengthen the life of Green Smoothies

Does anyone have any idea how long green smoothies stay fresh? My daily morning commute to school is about 2 hours. My plan is to make a huge batch of green smoothies just before I leave home, pour it into a plastic bottle, and hope the nutrients won't die or the smoothies go funky on me until I get to school where I can store my smoothies in the fridge all day. After lunch, the soda vending machine often calls my name, and I thought maybe having my green smoothies with me would help. But if the smoothies won't survive two hours of no refrigeration during transit and exposure to air every time I open the bottle to drink out of it, perhaps I should just forget the whole thing if it's not going to be worth the hassle.

Do you guys take your smoothies to work, school, etc.? Do you buy special containers (vacuum-sealed containers of whatever) to help lengthen the life of your smoothies? Thanks in advance.

Hey Abigail! I do make green smoothies every day and take them to work. I think you would be fine with it, then storing it in the fridge and then drinking it. I don't think they lose THAT much that quickly. Maybe take an insulated lunch bag in the morning to keep it colder? I also use two different Nalgene containers. They are the safe, good plastic.
I make frozen fruit smoothies in the morning and they stay longer then my lunch time green smoothies.
Hope this helps somewhat.
I wouldn't give up that idea. I think it's an excellent one. Others will pop in, I'm sure with some thoughts...
