Ok, after reading RP's thread...which was amazing by the way...I was just curious. I actually find myself dreading normal family holidays now. For just the reasons mentioned in RP's thread...I don't want to sabotage myself by being surrounded by comfort foods and everyone is enjoying them (most of which I have to make  )...anyone else think like this about holidays now that they are raw? This is my first raw Thanksgiving...and I want to feel great and successful in raw after it. Any suggestions to make me more comfortable with the holidays? Thanks!

I am in Netherlands and don't have Alissa's book with me, but in the book are two recipes for a veggie "turkey/stuffing" -- and it is FANTASTIC! That, with a raw cranberry sauce and a raw pumpkin pie, should take away any feelings of denial you may begin to experience.

I'm going to make a couple of mini calzones for Thanksgiving and make the main family meal as simple as possible.

I usually go into overdrive cooking AND uncooking, and it's exhausting both physically and mentally. The raw recipes can be just as bad or even worse with the whole planning of what I'm going to soak, sprout and dehydrate.

So for the family it's going to be some VERY basic stuff. With a gorgeous huge salad.

Having been Vegetarian/Vegan for so long now, it doesn't bother me to see a turkey (poor thing - THAT bothers me) and ham sitting on the butcher block at my cousin's house. And all the other traditional foods. I am actually looking forward to this year. I love challenges!
Oh - I did a search and look!

Here is an "oldie but goodie" thread that was posted back in the day with some recipes and ideas.
http://www.rawfoodtalk.com/forum/sh...ht=thanksgiving

And here is another one that is mainly pictures but I thought it might inspire you: http://www.rawfoodtalk.com/forum/sh...ht=Thanksgiving

There are many more holiday threads here, but I'm sure since we have many new people that you will get some newer ideas as well.

SS it is hard to imagine this beforehand, but usually most of us who partake in the cooked food feel sick and bad about doing it. But nobody ever seemed to regret not joining in on the cooked fest.

If you are going somewhere, I'd suggest brining a beautiful fruit plate or 1 prepared recipe.

I always remember how people's plates look - they're not pretty - usually so loaded up with crap it's not even funny. And then everyone gets so sick and full afterwards, yet still try and cram in dessert. It's quite ridiculous and absurd. I've even heard that the highest amount of gallbaldder attacks occur on Thanksgiving.

Yes. BE the bearer of wonderful trays of cut veggies, dip, cut fruit plates....etc. Bring raw veggie wraps held together with toothpicks...with fresh salsa & guacamole. Bring veggie Kabobs dipped in lemon juice and sprinkled with sesame seeds.

-Be the bearer of such things and be happy. No worries eh?

I started thinking about Thanksgiving a couple of weeks ago and have already started to create a menu for myself. So far I'm looking at making cranberry sauce, creamed corn, mushroom gravy and pumpkin pie. I'm really excited, but then again it will just be me and my husband, so that gives me a lot more freedom to do what I want.

Alissa has posted them here: do a search under Thanksgiving!

Thank You Alissa for sharing with us!. Joz

You'll do fine and you'll be setting such an example! When my relatives that haven't seen me lately see how healthy, glowing, and how much weight I've dropped, not to mention my energy, they will be amazed. I'm not out to change them. I took this journey for me. I'm the only me I will ever have and I want to take care of myself.
I think it's fun to surprise folks with raw food creations and watch their reaction. I can imagine how Alissa feels when she turns someone on for the first time to a wonderful, simple dish.
Have fun with this!

The pictures I got to see are beautiies with your great ideas, but can't open some of the links posted here. I don't have computer issues here.

Sharon, didn't see a reply yet re calzones: does 4 cups sproute buckwheat mean....you start with 4 cups of white buckwheat and sprout it or is the 4 cups sprouted wheatwheat the "result" of spouting the buckwheat? If so how much do you use to yield 4 cups of sprouted buckwheat. Feel like I am asking a tongue twister here. Thanks.

Oh, your "turkey" picture looks great and from my background looks more like my mother's delish meatloaf. I wonder how you can add "leg" pictures to the next turkey or how can I as I am not your artist genius always.

I have to see if I can find Alissa's recipes under Thanksgiving.

Everyone else has had a great response! I just want to add that remember, it's not about the food! It's about the enjoyment of the event and gathering of friends and family enjoying their company! Oh and of course giving thanks for what you have!

There's a wonderful fennel, orange, pomegranate and pine nut salad from the British Columbia Raw Food site:

It looks so festive I think it'll be perfect for Thanksgiving.

Even the beauty of putting together colorful tomatoes and bell peppers mixed with greens as a salad is a great event. I just love the colors of living foods mixed together. Nothing drab about them at all. I'm lucky to still boast about these as the prices in the stores are very expensive.
