Hi,

Just have a few questions:

Is it nessessary to buy Enzyme supplements if on Raw Food Diet? As all raw food has enzymes present you would think not, but I'm having some undesireable bowel movements of undigested food, which seems to be mostly from my salads where i have mixed veges and the "harder" things such as parsley, brocolli and many greens in general. And I also get bad movements I'm guessing from pineaplle. So I'm wondering whether to order Alissa's or the E3 digestive enzymes in hope it will aid my digestion and absorbsion of the food I'm eating. Would it be benefitial to me in this situation?

Also, about the B12 thing, is it possible to buy vegan B12 supplements? I'm guessing not, but if all B12 supplemens are from animal sources, are there any B12 supplements better then others? ie. is there anything i should watch out for in the ingredients etc?

Thanks for any responces!!

Well, I don't know about Alissa's supplements. If she sells them then I assume they're good.

Personally, I think if you are on a raw food diet, you do not need enzymes. It could take your body a little time to get used to working right again.

Also.. are you CHEWING your food REALLY well? I have to think you are NOT, especially if you can identify it so easily in the commode. I don't think pineapple would be a problem, since it is a digestive aid.

I'd say just hang in there a few weeks before making a decision, but I don't like taking pills and supplements.

I wonder if you should give more thought to food combining or are you doing so already.
On the B12. I recently bought some sublingual dots from Wild Oats that are suitable for vegans. They are made by twinlab.

I've been eating raw food exclusively for 4 months now. I eat fruit throughout the day, but don't mix any fruit together for a sitting, and the only time I do mix raw food around is with my daily salads in the late afternoon/evening where I'd usually have something like cauliflower, basil, avocados, tomatoes, cucumber, grated carrot etc.. and of course rotate the salady bits every few days...

So basically I can't see things getting any better unless I do something myself. Some days I get the perfect BM (or so-called perfect) but some days I just get what just looks like shredded food.

But if we didn't need those extra enzymes.. why does Alissa sell them??

Hi Up Leap,

I'm going to take a guess as to why we may need the extra enzymes. Maybe it's for those who are new to raw foods or aren't 100% raw. They may need that extra help until their bodies are rebuilt/repaired and functioning well on just the raw foods only.

* What I have heared, after a few "raw food lectures in Amsterdam " is that foods loose there enzyme's very quickly after being harvested. I think suppletion is neccesary, don't know which.

* B12 supplements are necessary, even for people eating meat!
Ones made by bacterials are the best. Don't know brands

* try sprouts, full of enzymes!

I also have wondered about the pushing of enzymes, anyway I feel I don't need any. Hope you find the answer you need..................

Paul Nison says that one should always take enzymes to get the maximum nutrition for as little energy expediture as possible. Enzymes are lost in all fruits and veggies unless they are eaten right after being picked. So I am starting to come around to Paul's way of thinking.

I currently use Udo's enzymes as I am convinced that he takes extreme care in his maunfacturing procedures to absolutely minimize damaging the nutrients.

As far as B12 is concerned, it is not made by animals but by bacteria. It is thought that it is also made by the bacteria in our guts so that we really don't need to supplement.

The Hippocrates summit concluded that it is necessary to supplement with B12 as most people appear to have lost that ability to adequately supply the amounts of B12 required.

Gabriel Cousens supports B12 supplementation, and has B12 available from his website:

Ok...I went to an iridologist as I was starting raw. (Looks in the eyes and can see week body systems. ;) ) He suggested taking enzymes for 3 and a half months and then my body would be good to go on it's own. SO, I agree with the earlier post that said it would help transitioning! ;)

All correct Alex.

Paul is a great guy. If you ever have the chance to see him, you will not regret.

Is there benefit from your enzyme supplements, or is it difficult to say?

I haven't taken suppliments for years, then I felt a need to take probiotics and enzymes, then I quit taking them, I didn't see or feel any difference.

I do believe that in a perfect world, with all organic foods, and no pollution and eating this way our entire life that we would not need any supplimentation,

however, since this is not the case, then I feel that supplimentation may be necessary if you are drawn to it.

So, if you are thinking of it, then you are drawn to it and it is probably a good thing for you to take them, if you forget to take them, you probably don't need to anymore.

that is how I do things, I feel that if I "NOTICE" it, then I am being guided to it.

Makes Sense RP. I think it also makes difference you get a lot out of your own garden full of enzymes, as fresh as possible?
