I've decided to start the Master Cleanse (lemonade, cayenne, maple syrup) because I've been reading the great benefits it reaps. My question is what to do with my exercise routine. Should I not exercise at all while on the fast, or should I exercise lightly? Does anyone have any experience or knowledge on this issue?

Dr. Graham suggests total rest while fasting - that means emotional, mental, physical, etc. Good luck!

Hey Raine,

How long are your pilates sessions during your fast? Thanks in advance!

It's a 20 minute routine taken from the Winsor Pilates DVD.

I did the Master Cleanse and i continued to workout during the entire time i was on it. A lot of people wouldn't technically associate the Master Cleanse with a "fast", and would instead label it more as a "cleanse", depending on who you ask and what their definitions are of the above.

From my Understanding, a fast is simply doing nothing at all (maybe drinking water) and just resting, selecting a day to just take off and not be very active. On the other hand a "cleanse" can involve you just eating/drinking one particular item for a period of time, and the reason a lot of people wouldn't consider that as a fast (as in the case with the Master Cleanse) is because you are still using your muscles, your intentinal muscles, digestive muscles, etc. just from consuming the lemonade. And a fast would be considered a TOTAL resting of the body and all of its muscles, etc.

In the case of a fast if you were to seriously pursue it and reap its full benefits, I wouldn't recommend working out and exercising heavily during that. But with a Cleanse (MC included) from my own experience i worked out just as hard as i always do and never once felt any more or less fatigued than normal!

I'd say to start off with something minimal, and see how you feel. If you feel you can do more then by all means go right ahead. By exercising (IMO) you're actually "speeding up" the process of eliminating the many toxins that you're attempting to get rid of by doing the cleanse in the first place. So in a way you're helping it along the way and allow it to do its job quicker and more efficiently.

Hope that helps you out a bit.. :)

PEACE!

P.S. What kind of juice fast are you doing Raine? Just curious. ;)

Predominately carrot/celery/1 clove of garlic. A couple times a week I'm doing orange/blueberry/banana. Every other day I am taking a tablespoon of extra virgin coconut oil. Lots of water with lime and green tea with stevia.

I'm on day 20 and am down 27 pounds. I absolutely love the way I am feeling health / emotional / spiritually.

Raine, this is an interesting mix. Is this something you read about or something you decided to do on your own?

It's just something I decided to do on my own. It's hard to go wrong with carrot/celery and I added the garlic clove because my blood pressure was high and I want to bring it down.
