I bought a small pumpkin because I wanted to try to make a pumpkin pie. I plan on using Alissa's recipe. Do I just chop the pumpkin up, and blend it all up....or should I soak or dehydrate the pumpkin to soften it up? I want the pie to be good enough to take to SAD Thanksgiving with my SAD eatin' family. I thought I would make one now to start experimenting with a fool proof recipe. Are there any things I should do differently to the recipe that one of you has tried?? Thanks for all your help. Anxiously waiting....

Man, that sounds GOOD! Let us know how it turns out!
Alissa's pumpkin pie recipe is so simple and awesome! Try making it with Calabasza squash, not sure if spelling correct on that but it is a bright orange squash available at most farm and natural markets and is in season right now. It reminds me of a cross between sweet potatoe and pumpkin ! I made 2 or 3 pies a weeks last year and just lived on it from halloween thru Thanksgiving!
Good luck!

Does it come out thick and cakey, or is it runny?
I was going to do this today with a butternut (she lists it as an alternative) how on earth do I shred it?
It comes out just like regular pumpkin pie! Although I must say I have not used butternut squash. Try to cut the squash in 1/2 or 1/4s if possible then cut the squash out fromthe inside. A lot easier then trying to peel it!
Good luck!

Do you then just put it in the food processor to shred it?

That's what I'm gonna do. Think of the consistency of SAD pumpkin pie. I'll let you know how it turns out.
