I just read a post below, where someone asked the same question.. but she didn't get a response. I am reading David Wolfes 600page book, the sunfood diet, and it says that carrots and bannanas are hybred foods that aren't to be eaten. So, are they or are they not good for you? (I can't imagine not drinking my banana smoothies and drinking my carrot and apple juice anymore) I would like to know peoples thoughts on these two things. Also.. last night I told my parents how I fixed soft tacos using a collard green leaf, my dad said that raw collards are hard on the digestive system. Is that true, or is it hard on the "cooked" digestive system??

I don't have any scientific proof, but I have a hard time believing carrots or bananas are hybrids. They've been around forever. On their own (especially carrots), they help a lot of health problems and provide a ton of nutrients. I can't see how they'd be bad.

And for collards, again, I don't know for sure...but I juice them and I have no problem at all. Maybe his body just doesn't tolerate them well.

I agree - round here carrots are pretty much a staple. Does he give any further explanation about how they are hybred, and why they aren't to be eaten?

I feel pretty good when I eat bananas and carrots. Infact I am eating at least one carrot a day now. I did read his book and I think sometimes we have to take what resonates with us and leave the rest. Go with how you feel.

Virtually ALL fruits and veggies we eat are hybridized. Even some some of the plants we think of as wild are in some way manipulated by humans. I often wonder why bananas and carrots get so much attention for this. Apples are some of the most thoroughly hybridized fruits around, but no one seems to worry about that. ;)

Hmmm, I know in Gabriel Cousens' book he mentioned not to eat bananas. I don't have the book with me at work, but I believe it was because he felt they had a high amount of sugar and something about low nutritional value. I have never heard anything about carrots though. I think I will keep eating both though ;) .

Excellent post, asil.

Bananas are excellent human food. Anyone who deems them to be of "low nutritional value" is using the wrong criteria to judge by. They are not starchy when they are ripe. Carrots are too high in starch to qualify as ideal human food, although I ate them copiously during my transition. It wasn't until I'd been raw awhile that I started noticing negative effects and stopped eating them for a couple years. My digestion seems to have healed enough to handle them now, as long as I eat them infrequently and in small quantities.

Cheers,
Nora
