View Full Version : Is water necessary?

Since I've been in the Netherlands resting, I've been doing a lot of reading. The person I'm staying with is also a raw foodist and has a nice library of older materials.
At least one author states that if you are eating plenty of raw fruits and vegetables, that you really do not NEED to drink water... that you get plenty of water from the food. Not only that, but if you are eating organic, it is fresh, clean, unpolluted water and much better than anything from your tap or from a bottle.
I wonder if there are thoughts on this.
I do notice that I really do not crave or care to drink water at all when I'm on high raw. I literally have to force myself to drink anything.
Thoughts? Experiences?

Hi Rowan C, and welcome back, you were sooooooooo missed.
YES, I agree, I am about 95% fruitarian, (except a few herbs and lettuce here and there), so I eat mostly fruits, when I am eating fruits, and drinking orange juice, I really don't drink very much water at all, but when I am eating dehydrated foods, and not eating as much fruits, I tend to drink alot of water, part of it may be the salt in the dehydrated foods, but I think it is because the natural water/liquid is dehydrated out, leaving the more dense food behind, so although it is exceptionally tasty( as all of Alissa's recipes are--yummy), our bodies still need the liquid that WAS in the food, so we get thirsty,
I think the best thing we can do, is to not force our bodies into doing anything, it will tell us we are thirstly when we are, it will tell us we are hugry when we are, etc.
NOW, if you are a brand new raw foodist, and only have a couple of 100% raw weeks or months, your body may not be telling you everything perfectly, it can take months and sometimes years for you to understand all the little subtle signals, about when you are thirstly or hungry.
I was an undereater for so many years, that I was in a constant deprivation, starvation state, so I didn't know what true hunger was, all I knew was those terrible stomache aches, that I would endure, just to wait until my next meal came up.
NOW, I know what real hunger feels like, you can wait, a day or two before you really feel like eating, and if you've had a lot of nuts one day, you will want only fruit and juice the next day, that is true hunger.

Hi RawHPS and thanks for the welcome! I really missed all of you too! You folks are great for discussing new ideas, feedback, and learning new things. I love this group!
I think you are right about beginner raw people. In the beginning I think also that you should drink a lot of water during the first stages of detox.. it just makes sense. But I'm glad to hear that I'm not the only one who really doesn't drink a lot of water when eating fruit especially.

Does anyone know if animals in the wild who eat nothing but fruit still drink water.
I have to have water. I drink more water since going raw than I did when vegan. I do not have to force myself. I want it.

I only drink water when I'm thirsty. Some days I rarely drink any at all. Just remember that drinking too much water is almost as bad as not drinking enough.

I went and heard Tanya Zavasta speak a couple months ago. She said that once the body has detoxed you really don't need much water, but while you are still detoxing you should continue to drink enough water to help flush all the toxins out of your body.

Hi Deadnutrition,
your statement is quite intense. almost like a command, and you base this on ????????
what information?
treated how?
I drink from our artesian well, no chlorine and no treatment of any kind, but I can understand that not all water is this pure, personally, I enjoy eating fruit for it's high liquid content and that is mostly what I eat/drink, so I don't have to drink so much water.
But, when I am out and about, I will often buy water if I can't make sure the fruit I am getting is organic. which can be the case when I travel, or it may not be ripe or fresh, so it is all a trade off.
