HI,
I live in a small west texas town that is about 3 hrs west of dallas and we do not have a whole foods market and we have a small health food store that doesn't stock much, so my question is can I get what I need for this diet at a grocery store and can it be done on a budget? Any advice or tips would help alot.
Thanks

Yes, absolutely! ;) This is how I started out.
First, if you can't find it locally...you can purchase on line. Alissa's site has lots of yummies to help you out!
Secondly, Stick to the produce section. That is the only place you will be purchasing your food. Going cheaply...I do this a lot of times. For me that means...purchasing ripe bananas in the $.99 bag. I bring them home, slice them and freeze. One bag usually makes me raw ice cream for a week.
I also purchase what's in season. For that reason....it's always the cheapest produce because it is plentiful. Like right now...that's apples.
I personally go to the store several times a week. I stock up on staples that I know I will want every day...but then I leave room in my budget for splurges. Like watermelon! They are very expensive right now, but twice a week our grocery store slices them and they sell a half...for a few bucks. So, I splurge and that's my lunch once in a while.
Third, when it comes to veggies...chose the ones you really love. They won't stay good forever...so, make sure you buy only what you are going to eat...or you are wasting money.
And last...you can do this! It doesn't have to be fancy...or expensive. Make it work for you and your budget. Good Luck!

Just my opinion:

-Yes. Eating healthy CAN be as simple as eating more of the fruits and vegetables that you love - from your local inexpensive grocer. Until you have reached YOUR goal of fresh, raw plant food eating (10%.....50%....90%...99%...100%....whatever). I advise to shoot for THAT.

-By the time you consistently reach YOUR raw food goal....you will have detoxed and healed with little or no trouble. The food will be your medicine.

-What do you think?

Csigirl -

Hello from Dallas. Ask your health food store is they will special order things in for you. Things like spirulina, Stevia Plus!, extra virgin coconut oil, etc., are staples in my pantry.

If you have a sams club or costco you can buy a large quantity of raw nuts for a lot cheaper than the grocery store. You can also buy the fruit in larger quanities to eat and juice. I buy whole pineapples that are pretty large for just under 3.00 each and they are yummy! I also buy the large bag of carrots there as well.

You may need to rely on the internet for some of the staples. I have seen some stuff even out on EBAY.

Good Luck!

I'm also on a budget, so with the help of a friend I've started growing some of my own stuff.

I've started with the easy things like tomatoes, onions and garlic, but it also feels great knowing that I've nurtured them. And seeds cost a lot less too :D
