View Full Version : Can excessive gas be from detoxing?

Even though I watch how I combine my foods I still get terrible, stinky gas. :o
We're talking bad!!!
My family very rarely have this problem. It is so embarrassing. I feel like I walk around in an invisible stinky cloud.
All of a sudden I thought that maybe it was part of a detox, but how could it be? I guess I am hoping that some day it will be over.
It isn't much different then when I have eaten beans. Even after having been a vegan for nine years I still couldn't eat beans without tons of gas later.
Any ideas???

Let me guess, you have started (or restarted) raw within the last month or two? I say that because that's when the gassy episodes always start with me. I think that they last only a few weeks, if even that long. It has something to do with your colon being cleaned out so it's a GOOD thing!

Stinky gas happens when protein does not digest well. Gas that is not stinky is carbohydrates that have not digested well. So somehow you are not combining protein well, or you are eating too much protein.

I have been having the same problem recently. And yesterday I didn't have hardly ANY protein. I had a little bit of almonds. TODAY I STINK!!!! And I also have only eaten apples, pears, and carrot/beet juice today, and I am STILLL having so much smelly gas!!! ewwww

the gas just keeps on being made. I can't even believe it! The only fat/protein I ate today was one avacado!

I also eat very little protein. I eat mainly fruits, veggies, greens and some avocados.
I don't eat nuts/seeds. Rarely have sprouts. No sprouted beans for sure.
I have days where all I have eaten is pears and lettuce and I still have this problem. It is terrible.
It wouldn't be so bad if I lived alone but geeeesh!

If we could bottle all this gas up we could power our cars on it, think of the savings we would have to buy more raw food and more gas. Forever Young

oh, yes! For some reason at the beginning most raw fooders get a lot of gas and constipation. My breastfeeding friend is increasing her raw food percentage and even her baby got so much gas, that she slept awful at night!
My experience is that if I don't snack all day(3-4 hours between meals at least) and don't mix too many foods - my digestion is perfect. But I am raw for a while with a few slip ups.

Oh, and if I do get gas, it smells like cigars... Much better than rotten eggs on cooked though... Sorry...

If your body is still in detox mode the gas could be a result of parasites in the colon. Might be something to read up on.

Don't forget proper food combining http://wiliweld.com/food/food.jpg That's a decent food combining chart.
If you pair foods that take different amounts of time to digest, they'll ferment and cause gas. Especially fruit.

I have been Raw for over a year and I remember the Gas period I went through. It was horrid ! I think it is a form of detox ! It will pass with time. I still to this day have to combine food properly or it I will get gas. My digestive system is not real hearty and I have to be careful what I eat, no cabbage or cauliflower for me !
