Hi everyone!

I'm new to the site, and new to raw. I've been reading up on it for about a month now, but just went 100% raw on Monday ... well ... actually more like 99.9% ...

I'm still very much learning ... until I'd received Alissa's book and DVDs, I was pretty much clueless. The more I'd read, the more difficult this seemed. But she really made it look easy ... which it really is!

I'd been having a lot of digestion problems, and even in the couple of days that I've been raw I've noticed a very big improvement! It's great!! Even today I was starting to feel like I had more energy, even around the 3:00 pm timeframe when I hit that low spot where I'm (normally) just ready to crash.

So I'm really very psyched about going raw, even if the majority of the people I know now think that I've lost it. (Putting it mildly.) :(

Is there anyone out there from Central Florida? Space Coast, specifically. I'm having a heck of a time finding raw stuff ... especially the young baby coconuts. If anyone knows where to find them, please let me know! :) Also, are there any raw restaurants around here? I don't think there are, but I'm really hoping there is.

I'm so glad that I've been pointed in the direction of this board ... it's so great to be able to meet others who are raw!! I'm looking forward to reading the posts and learning all that I can about this diet!

Thanks so much for everyone's help! (In advance ...) :)

Take care and have a great evening!

Carolyn

Welcome Carolyn -- Glad you found this site. It is a great resource!!

I know what you mean about some folks thinking you've 'lost it'. I've been raw 7 months now, and my mom still shakes her head and rolls her eyes when the subject comes up. :) But the fact you are feeling great is testimony enough that you're on the right track!

Good luck on your raw journey!!

Welcome Carolyn,
Seems to be quite a few Florida members here on this site. That's fantastic!
I live in Jacksonville Florida and I have only found one store in my area where I'm able to get some of the raw products that we use. I've not found the baby coconuts either. Got the regular (brown ones) ok, but would really like to try the baby ones. There are no Raw restaurants in the area either. Hmmm.... is that a good idea for a new business or what? !!The back of Alissa's book gives some locations of restaurants in Florida. All my friends have always made fun of the way I eat. I just think their jealous. I don't care. I feel great and that's all that matters to me. My hubby is understanding and that's all I need.
Hope you find the info. for you quest within this forum. It's really a helpful and the people are the best!

Here's a place in FL that makes raw food. It's a little expensive - because it has to be shipped overnight to you..but if there's something you don't want to make...http://www.glaserorganicfarms.com/

Their food is also carried in the whole foods markets.

Hi again everyone!

Mayana, thanks so much for the link to the place here in Florida! I can't wait to check them out! I'm still on the Week One Meal Plan from Alissa's book, but it would be interesting to try some other things that I haven't figured out how to make yet! :)

KimO ... I know exactly what you mean about the regular brown coconuts. I can find those all over the place. I tried calling an Asian Market in the area, but they said the only coconut they had was in a can. And unfortunately there's not very many Asian Markets around here (at least listed in the phone book).

I haven't told too many people outside my family that I've gone raw. I really learnt not to after I'd told someone, they looked at me like I'd grown two heads and then when I'd commented on that they replied that they were "just worried" about my health. I don't know how eating vegetables, fruits and all is "unhealthy", but I guess that's the mindset of a lot of people. It's a bit sad. :(

I'm very psyched about it all, tho'! (Altho' I've never been a big fan of fruits and veggies, unfortunately ... but that's already changed. Processed food just doesn't interest me at all anymore, and I'm looking forward to the salads I bring to work for lunch! Go figure! lol ...)

But I am noticing a difference already. I've lost 3.5 pounds since I'd started this on Monday. I have about 20 pounds to lose, and they've been extremely stubborn. So this is such a great side benefit! :)

Thanks again for the warm welcomes ... it's great to be here! :D
