For those that live in the north, how do you get your daily intake of vitamin D in the winter? I hate the cold so much that I can't bare to be out in it even for the vitamin D. Can you get vitamin d through a window?

Thanks!

I was just reading today in Victoria Boutenko's book "Green For Life" a chart that states "For a caucasion with medium skin pigmentation, exposure of the face, hands, and arms for five minutes two or three times a week for three-fourths of the year actually eliminates the need for dietary intake of vitamin D"

I've also read other articles that vitamin D can be stored in your body to get you through the winter months if you spend time in the sun during the spring/summer/fall months. (not sure of the source)

I think D-3 is from animal products, D-2 is vegan, correct me if I'm wrong.

LOL in organic agriculture, D-3 is permitted for use as a rodenticide.

Though it's important to not get deficient in it, I have seen it cited as important prevention for many diseases including M.S.

I'v read this also! Some wrote that in the winter bundle up and expose your face and hands if there is sun for 5 to 15 mins. Last winter I was able to sun bathe, my toes got cold! but I had a healthy tan all winter and got accused of going to tanning booths! Ah the warmth of sunshine on you body!

check this out: http://www.markblackburn.org/Papers/SunBathing.htm

this article gives you link info to other articles.

You can look into getting a lightbox. Shazzie sells them but I'm sure they are available everywhere.

Vitamin D food sources: alfalfa, dandelion greens,
Herbs that contain vitamin D include alfalfa, horsetail, nettle and parsley.

ALFALFA

fresh green alfalfa has more vitamin C than orange juice, helps relieve morning sickness with its high vitamin K content and contains a high amount of beta-carotene to help build the immune system, skin and mucous membranes. Alfalfa has proven itself to be one of the best sources of vitamin B and contains high amounts of vitamin D, niacin, and the B-complex vitamins.

BORON: Enables the body to assimilate calcium & magnesium, making it vital for strong bones, and facilitates the functioning of vitamin D. May help prevent prostate cancer. Found in nuts, avocados, non-citrus fruits (apples, pears, plums, grapes).

All in all, I believe the SUN is the greatest source and DO anything to get sunshine, even if you have to wear a special man made light abosrbing winter suit :D ;)

Hmmmm...........misslinda,
This suit sounds interesting, is it also water proof for wearing in deep snow?
and is it wind proof for when the sun is shining but the wind is blowing, does it have little solar cells on it so that I can listen to my Ipod while I'm asorbing my Vitamin D?:D

Birthday Suit + Goosebumps + indentations from lounge chair = Free Halloween Costume

Maybe just take some brisk walks out in the sun. When you get back home, and hot and sweaty, peel off some of the clothing and sit out there in the sun before you go back in the house.
