l live in Maryland and I went into the grocery store 2 weeks ago to buy some Romaine lettece, and when I brought it home and put it on the counter, it seemed liked HUNDREDS of little bugs started crawling out! So, I put the lettece, bugs and all in a zip lock bag, took it back to the store and showed the manager. He said he would call Corporate to take care of it. Well, today I was reading how to make Soft Tacos from the Rawvultions uncook book, and it called for collard greens. Well, I opened the greens in the store, to see ALOT of tiny live bugs in them! I then asked for a manager, only to be told that he had left.. so I walked away, called from my cell, and then asked for the store manager. He came on the phone, and then I told him to meet me at produce. I showed him the inside of the greens covered with little bugs and he was shocked and he begun to take all of the greens off the shelf. I went back and they still had alot of "buggy" leaves on the shelf. Now, I could see if it was a Farmers Market, where the produce comes straight from the field, but aren't grocery stores suppose to make sure the bugs are off? Even if they only sprayed it with water, I am sure they would have come off.. I like "organic" but bugs.. that is taking it a little too far. lol So, my question is.. (after such a long post) is this a COMMON thing in grocery stores??? Or, is this store the exception? And if it is a grocery store is it legal to sell greens infested with living bugs to people??
