There are different types of fasting. Which type of fasting are you referring to?
As for me, I water fasted for 14 days straight. It could happen, & I felt really refreshed afterwards. :D

That requires so much discipline...or at least it would for me. If you wouldnt mind, will you share with me how you find the discipline and what the benefits are behind a long fast like that? I am just trying to get as informed as possible. Thanks. :)

Before the water fast, I had tried juice fasting. Now, juice fasting for me takes a whole lot more discpline. Yet, for some people, they find it easier juice fasting. So I guess it may be different for each individual.
There's actually a section on here about fasting. During the fast, I had read a book on fasting called, "Fasting & Eatting for Health" by Joel Fuhrman. The book had advised for me to eat RAW afterwards which is how I found my way onto this wonderful site. Also, try freedomyou.com
Best wishes for you.

This is great information...I am definitely interested in everyone's experiences on this. Does a fast cleanse a person more thoroughly?

Opinion:
-Its not a discipline thing (well....only a very small part of it)....it's a "know it in your gut" and a "motivation" thing. What I mean is: When you've eaten very healthy for a week....and then you eat a pizza....and get sick....you KNOW that the pizza made you sick....and you just commit to never eating pizza again. Forever. You have a deep and abiding commitment. It's a done deal. After that, it takes no more discipline to eat healthy than it does to avoid heavy drugs.....or playing tag in heavy traffic! LOL.
-As to fasting specifically: Same thing. When you wake up one morning and your body just finds food to heavy....it's probably the time to fast for you. But it has to be very voluntary and joyful........and not an onerous burden. If you feel you are giving up something (well...there's always a LITTLE of that) then only light fasting is recommended. If you really feel you are doing yourself a kind favor.......and you are ready to accept symptomology....then you'll know that you are in the right frame of mind.
-What do you think?

Q: "Does a fast cleanse a person more thoroughly?"
A: A fast will cleanse you much faster than just eating better. Sometimes the toxins will be released too quickly, which some people will then choose to break the fast.
My advice would be to read up on all of the fasts before you start one. Afterwards, eating raw will be even easier.

I think I have to progress a bit more before I am ready for a fast. Currently I fast once a month but for religious reasons rather than health, but that is all I have ever done. I am very interested and anxiously looking forward to feeling the needs of my body as I get more and more raw. I am already starting to feel some cues from it. It is actually really interesting. I have also found, by the way, that I am better able to tell when I am thirsty versus hungry...not something I was able to tell easily when I was more "cooked"...I love the progression.
