I've been in possession of a 25 pound bag of organic oat groats for about a month now, and have to confess, I haven't made anything with them yet, they're just sitting there unopened.

I would so appreciate some recipes, as that's a lot of groats to get through!

Found this:

But here’s how to make oatcakes using either an oven or dehydrator. This is a sweet recipe so the kids can enjoy a grain they hardly touch.

You need:

Two cups of oat groats
Three tablespoons maple syrup
Take two cups of oat groats and soak for about ten minutes.

Now drain thoroughly. You’ll have plenty of oat milk drained off if you fancy using that as a dairy substitute during the day.

Pour two or three spoons of maple syrup into the oats and blend in.

Take a dehydrator sheet or grease proof paper and spoon the mix out in biscuit sized shapes about 1/8th of an inch thick. Making thin biscuits is important because it takes less time to dehydrate.

Dehydrate for around 6 hours, checking occasionally for a crisp finish. Temperature should be around 60.

Thanks everyone!

Any further ideas greatly appreciated as that's a heck of a lot of oat groats to get through.

Anyone got any savory recipes? crackers?

Also, is there a way to make an oatmeal if I don't have a flaker?

Today I bought some raw oat groats from The Raw Bakery company... And it said to grind them and then soak for 20 minutes. So I ground them in the vitamix, and soaked the "flour" for 20, and it was a porridge type consistency... but it didn't taste all that awesome... I added a LOT of agave and some cinnamon... I don't know if I need to acquire a taste or whetehr something was wrong, but I definitely am not craving more! I need to try to make a cookie out of it

Funny coincidence, but before I read this thread I hunted out a packet of oat groats from the back of my cupboard and decided to have a play with them. I ground them really fine in an electric coffee grinder, did the same with an equal quantity of cashew nuts, chucked in some ground ginger powder, a teaspoonful of coconut butter and enough agave syrup to bind to a paste.

Then I rolled them into cookies. I was intending to dehydrate them, but sadly can't tell you what they would have been like because by then i'd eaten all the raw mixture! Mmmmmmmmmmmm.

So you really don't need to soak them or sprout them or anything like that first, in my opinion.

I think that mixed to a paste with some water and celtic salt and then dehydrated they would make some great crunchy savoury biscuits, too.
