I bought my first one at Wild Oats today and I could not believe it. I don't know what I was expecting, but it wasn't what I got! I am in LOVE with this fruit! I guess I was thinking it would be like a regular coconut, I was sure surprised when I found out what it was!
My bf is originally from Hawaii, and he used to eat these all the time. Absolutely loves them. He was so happy when he found out that I bought one! I still can't get over the delicious, flavor of that water. And so much of it, too! I was amazed at the sweet creaminess of the meat. I have never had anything like this before, and I'm sure to have it a lot more often now!
Does anyone have any rawsome recipes including young coconut milk and meat? What are your favorites? We made an amazing drink with pineapple and the meat and water. It was as smooth as yogurt!

YCs are one of my very favorite things too! The Raw Food Real World cookbook uses a ton of young coconuts in their recipes. The Chocolate Pudding is the most amazing thing, exactly like chocolate pudding using YC as the base. They use the thicker YC meat for noodles in recipes.

Go over to www.gliving.tv and go into the recipies section. They have an amazing recipie for a chocolate banana shake that uses it and they have the asian noodle salad that is quite good as well. I also like to take the coconut water and the flesh and put it in the blender with some vanilla, cinnamon, and ice cubes to make a coconut shake. Hmm.. good!

I love 'em just as they are! MMMMMMMMmmmmmmm. I've posted a page on how to easily open one at http://www.reallyrawfood.com. I buy them by the case. I have a good dozen in the fridge right now.

I'm right with ya on the young coconut thing. I spent some time in fiji and we would get those right off the trees. They would call the water "boo" and has a littel natural fizz to it.
Just made an exceptional coconut cream pie mde of only coconut and dates
One of the best deserts I've had period.
Ingredients are only
yuoung coconut- water and meat
coconut oil
dried coconut
dates
This was based on a recipie that someone gave me from cafe gratitude in SF.

Thanks for all of your work in posting pictures on how to open them. I did one today and it was not easy. Are they supposed to be refrigerated? I left mine out on the counter all week and it attracted fruit flies. Can anyone tell me?

Thanks for all your suggestions, everyone! Much appreciated! The pie sounds divine, I want to try that, as does the pudding! I will check out the recipes in that book and that website too. I can't believe this is the first I've tasted them before! So yummy! :)
