View Full Version : Who is out there NOT living in the US?

We have just moved to Indonesia and I was wondering what other people's experiences outside the US have been. I can get more organic products than I thought I would be able to, so that's good. The array of produce is astounding.

I have not been here long enough to get reactions from many people about eating raw. How about for you? What do you hear?

Hi Marci,

I am from Germany but am living in China at the moment.

Last year saw an increase of organic vegetables, but most raw items I have to order from abroad.

Eating raw is here something like a "never heard of it" thing ;)

cheers,
melanie

Nova Scotia, Canada!

I live on Cape Breton Island. Produce prices tend not to be too bad, but fresh fruit is very expensive. I don't have access to any ready-made raw dishes and I don't order things online because the exchange rate is often pricey due to our crappy worthless money. Haha.

My raw food is all made at home and I'm usually heavy on the veggies because they are cheaper.

:) :) :)

I heard about that restaurant, eatyourbroc!

I lived in Guelph for almost 20 years - only an hour away from T.O. but I haven't made it there yet - is on the schedule though.

Thanks!

I'm from Australia, I just joined today and am starting the raw food diet tomorrow! I can't wait! I'm a vegetarian so hopefully that will work in my favour. I've never heard of the raw diet here in Melbourne.

I am, and also some others

* Only 1 raw restaurant in Amsterdam/Netherlands, they also sell
raw food products, raw food preperation classes, yogha.
Non-commercial foundation !!

* Pretty good organic farmersmarkt in Amsterdam on Saturday.
A girl there presses wheatgrass, sells raw-items, gives workshops

* there is only one organic food chain, no competition

* Something is in the air, rawfood will rise here, I smell it

* If i win the lotery, I am gonna import all your lovely raw products
(www.coconutbliss.com etc...)

No raw food resturants that I know of :(
There are a couple vegan resturants and a few vegetarian ones.

We have one totally organic grocery store (again, there may be more but thats the only one I know of)! I could spend hours looking at all the goodies there :p

I'm in the UK, and I've found that most restaurants are very accommodating if you ask nicely and will usually whip up a choice salad.

Where I live there are a lot of people who grow their own veg - its a great way to get to know your neighbours :D

MarciRoundtheWorld where in Indonesia are you? In Bali there are heaps of raw and organic things happening! I'm from Australia and we don't have one raw restaurant yet... heaps of organic though.

I'm in the states again, but I was eating high raw in Paris, France for a while.

They have a really good organic market and a few health food stores, but I found it to be really time consuming just to eat over there. I had to travel far and round about to get produce, and they really didn't have GREENS. Therefore I couldn't live there long term (or i'd have to grow my own in my windows, which is a feasable option).. I admire all those making it work abroad in the more challenging of places.

It is a great opportunity though because it reminds you everyday how important your health is to you, and what you will do for your health above all else. :)

Hi all,

just joined after moving to Ireland from London. With my luck I had to move from a place that's really getting into raw, to a place where they look at you funny if you ask for organic - sigh

Sport, where do you live? We're in Listowel, Co. Kerry - would be nice to find another raw foodie in Ireland!

Hi!

Toronto, Canada!

Oh, and Alex-- "Fressen" (sp?) on Queen West has a "Rawsagna". But only for dinner. I made the mistake of going for lunch and ended up with a salad. Boooo.

Hi Im from the uk
There are many wholefood cafe style places to eat that are happy to accommodate raw vegans (simple salads, mainly available during the day)

I grow my own fruits and veggies and indoor baby greens.
I am very fortunate. I live near many organic growers that operate organic veggie box schemes and organic farm produce outlets. :)

I am an American living in Austria. I am the only one I know who is even vegan, much less raw! There are all-organic stores in Vienna which I go to occasionally to stock up on items and organic is becoming so main-stream here that even the discount stores are all carrying it. Only problem is that it is mostly dairy and meat and a limited selection of veggies/fruit. I grow my own greens in my home garden. This is my first winter on raw, so I am wondering what to do now as I desperately search for signs of green in the stores. I froze my kale that I pulled at the end of growing season, but as it dwindles quickly I am wondering where I will get the goods for my smoothies!! Lettuce is in supply for normal salads, but not dark greens! In Germany there is a mail-order company that sells the typical range of raw organic goodies, but those are rare treats due to the prices. I am hoping that the range of organic produce available continues to increase. I am amazed, though, at the real explosion of organic products now here.

I was just in Melbourne this weekend for U2 and the markets there are amazing. My husband especially loved CERES (an organic permaculture garden and market). We have heaps of organic where we are. I love it!

I hope your 1 totally organic store you are talking about is NOT Organza because there is more.... VITA HEALTH.... my wife works there.

Good to see another Winnipeger on the board.
