I was reading through some pretty old posts and found a post that mentioned Bragg Liquid Aminos being bad for the kidneys. There was a link included in the post that I followed, but didn't see where this was mentioned (though I only skimmed).

I'm interested in hearing more about this and wondering where this information came from. The person I see for natural health - also the person who did my reams test - explained to me that I needed to start having Bragg Liquid Aminos every day to HELP my kidneys. The test apparently revealed that I was dehydrated. I explained that I drink a gallon of water a day, and so dehydration would seem impossible. She said something about in the event that a person is getting enough fluids, but still coming up dehydrated, they are low on sodium. I can't remember exactly what she explained, but it was something about, basically, at the end of the day, sodium is what helps us to retain enough fluid...or something. And that a lack of sodium sends wrong messages to the kidneys...where something else negative happens that I don't exactly recall LOL.

As a side note, I also really like the liquid aminos for their amino content. Aminos are needed desperately for, among other things, psoriasis, which I have. But now I'm getting way off track lol

So like I was saying, I'm just really curious about where the info that Braggs is bad for the kidneys came from, who said it, and why it's bad, so that I can either get a second opinion, or at least see the context.

Thanks all.

I'm really not sure. I choose not to use it because it comes from a soy product, and for the most part I don't find soy to be a best ever food. Also braggs makes me feel like I did when I would eat MSG in the past, so I don't like the tired unfocused oblivion of a bragg's dressing... I don't like a lot of salt in my diet. A little celtic sea salt from time to time is all I need. Or if i'm going for soy I like miso better

All a matter of opinion...
if you feel great with it, alright!!

I'm always suspicious of anything that comes in bottle, that I can't pick directly from the garden or off the tree. :) Celery is a high-sodium vegetable.

I believe one of the main ingredients of Bragg's is hydrolized soy protein, which contains naturally occuring MSG. This is from wikipedia:

Hydrolyzed proteins, or protein hydrolysates, are acid- or enzymatically treated proteins from certain foods. They contain salts of free amino acids, such as glutamate, at levels of 5 to 20 percent. Hydrolyzed proteins are used in the same manner as MSG in many foods, such as canned vegetables, soups, and processed meats.

Braggs is a highly processed, refined product which the human body has no use for. Sodium chloride is poisonous to our cells, that's why the body suspends it in water -- to protect our tissues and vital organs from direct contact with it. Eating salt in no way enhances the function of the kidneys or cures the problem of dehydration. Your health practitioner is outrageously misinformed to make such a claim. I'd seek out another source of information if optimal health is what you want.

If you want amino acids, these are most readily available in whole fruits and tender green leafy vegetables. Eating a diet of these foods exclusively will most likely clear up your psoriasis in short order.
