I can't believe what I've been reading on this board lately about the whole spinach and E.coli thing. I am surprised and saddened to hear people express their really mean opinions at the parents of the 2-year-old boy who died. Can you imagine what they are going through right now?

Just because the father said that they thought the spinach was kind of bad and didn't use it anymore after that doesn't mean that they are automatically guilty of child abuse. Hello, maybe it was after the child ate it that they realized it was kinda bad. What is all this nonsense about they should be charged with child abuse.

Honestly, how it seems to me right now is that people are more concerned with defending their raw lifestyle than being considerate of these parents. Who knows they could be part of this forum, after all it sounds like they may be raw. How many parents do you know who feeds their kids a raw smoothie. What is child abuse are people who never feed their kid any fruits and vegetables. They obviously cared enough about their child to be feeding him a raw smoothie for frig sake.

And denying that this is all a hoax as well is dangerous. Are some of you that defensive about raw foods that you cannot even differentiate between what is and what isn't common sense?

I know exactly what you mean!!! If someone in my family was sick with it or died...I would be devastated! People seem to be defending raw food, but there was a problem in our schools once with strawberries and kids were getting e.coli from it. It was bad. So yeah...it is a sad reality, but spinach is out of my diet for a looong time!

Thanks for saying this.

i havn't read the hype over the 2 year old yet. I kinda stopped reading the e. coli posts. It's not child abuse at all. When I was about 18 months my mom gave me an egg. It wasn't cooked completely, but she didn't know that. I got a horrible case of salmonella and almost died. I still have the effects from it 18 years later. It wasn't my mom's fault. Not like she did in on purpose.

Agreed regarding the child.

As for spinach being out of the diet for a long time, I believe I read somewhere that the FDA had cleared any spinach not from Salinas Valley, California to be eaten.

Although the FDA has recommended that people not eat fresh, raw spinach, it said Friday that spinach grown anywhere outside California's Salinas Valley is safe to eat.
