View Full Version : Maximum amount of nutrients per hour???

Okay, so a friend asked me this question today and I have no idea what to tell her.
"Should I limit my green juices and smoothies intake to 8oz? My worker (who follows Hallelujah Acres) says the large amounts of drink/smoothie do not really help since the body can only benefit from 8oz per hour. Therefore, if you drink all of it a one setting, you are wasting the nutrients and money because the body can not assimilate it. Is this true? Should I consume it hourly or over the course of the day?"
Any thoughts on this?

How about just when you're hungry?

Revell, I agree with you and I will drink as much of a smoothie as I WANT until I am full, but that's not answering her question :)
I think she's asking more about the nutrient aspect of the juice and if it's true that the body can only assimilate a certain amount per hour.

The nutrient aspect would depend exactly on what is in the juice ~ whether it's organic or not, how fresh the ingredients are and also, what condition the body is in ~ is there something unseen that might need extra nutrients, etc.
Where's her worker (co-worker?) getting her information? HA? IF so, what do that have to back up that statement?

This can be true in some situations imo. I don't know about the 8oz figure, but when we are eating foods that are liquified..and especially if some of the fiber from the food has been removed, we are getting nutrients into our bloodstream at an accelerated rate.
Your kidneys are charged with keeping everything in balance in your body. Most people think that urine is a toxin, but it really is not. Your urine contains 2.5% urea, 2.5% vitamins/minerals, and the rest is water. If you are consuming nutrients that puts the balance of, say...phosphorus out of whack with the ratio that it should be in with calcium, your kidney's will filter out the excess phosphorus to put the ratio back where it needs to be. Our urine, which is essentially filtered blood and is actually called plasma ultrafiltrate by the scientific medical field, will then be full of all these excess nutrients.
This doesn't mean that your body doesn't need the nutrients. You could be deficient in something, yet your body will filter that something out if it needs to be in balance with another substance in your body.
So...can your body use more than 8 oz of a smoothie in an hour. Yes it can...if things are in proper ratio with one another. But things change moment by moment in the body and if you are hungry, you should eat. Your body will dispose of that which is superfluous and will do so automatically..even if you only drink 4 oz of a smoothie in 2 hours...
EDIT: If someone is transitioning from cooked to raw, I would totally disagree and tell your friend to eat all she wants when she wants. It is not a waste of money as most people's bodies are in such poor condition internally that nutrients coming in large amounts and often can be very helpful.

Yes, yet, how can they back up that statement? anyone can put a statement out there. Doesn't mean it's accurate. I'd ask her to go to the source and find out where/how they get THEIR information.
Oh! You're welcome. (thought I saw thank you out there, somewhere.)

Revell, I don't think Kandice (my friend) is viewing this information from Hallelujah Acres as gospel, and I don't think she is particularly interested in going back to HA to ask them to back up their statements. She doesn't know anyone within their organization to ask. I believe she is just simply trying to collect as much information from different sources as possible. I was just posting her question here, because I myself do not have an answer to give her other than, "Drink as much juice / smoothie as you feel your body needs", which is ONE answer...but I was trying to see if anyone else had an opinion on the subject.

Oh, I'm sorry Revell...I didn't mean not to sound appreciative :( . I appreciate your feedback enormously, as well as the feedback of all of the members of this forum. That's why I post questions to you guys :)

I have lots of H Acres books and videos and did follow it, but raw is easier because I never could figure out 85/15 % stuff. I'm sure she can look up the 8oz thing on their search engine or email them.
